After 4 years I eventually reached 4mg pred 2 weeks ago. I was in hospital with stomach pains 2 days ago. I had a doctor visit yesterday as very weak, unable to stand for long, very dizzy light headed. Considered it may be ‘virus’ and to refer to neuralagist. I have severe pain on right side of neck, up past ear and into top of head - difficulty moving - could this be return of GCA. think I shall contact rheumatologist tomorrow. I increased pred to 8 mg yesterday and today to see if it helped. Unable to take AA as usual this morning as unable to stand for half hour. Value you guidance.

Is this a Flare?
Hi
Sorry you are feeling so bad, but think the doctor might be right - rather than a flare of GCA, although one should never rule it out. Was he aware of your GCA history? Did he give any advice about taking ordinary pain killers?
You do not need to stand up after taking AA, you just have to not lie down…sitting in a chair is perfectly adequate. But not taking them for one day won’t do any harm anyway…..
Good idea to contact Rheumy tomorrow, by then you may know if the extra Pred made any difference or not.
Yes - it was out of hours doctor and all my stats were fine. I did mention an episode I had - which seems similar - 20 years ago before a diagnosis of MS. But the headache which I didn’t have then seems so like the one on the left of head diagnosed as GCA. No other symptoms though re jaw. I shall try taking some paracetamol. thanks
