PMR and arm numbness

Hello - at 7mg at almost a year with PMR. Doing okay until this week my thumb started going numb/tingly throughout the day. I tried to search for past posts but nothing showed up. Could this be part of PMR and reducing? Thanks so much for any thoughts.

Just your thumb or the index and middle finger too? Nerve compression is the most likely reason

Any discomfort in the base of your thumb? That is the first place I feel a flare getting going when i reduce the dose.

I had trigger thumb a while back, which is now OK but I have noticed that I get numbness at the end of the thumb.

Hello, Sounds like a nerve is irritated. Likely places to do this are the wrist such as in carpal tunnel syndrome or from the neck. I’d get it looked at so that other causes can be ruled out before blaming PMR. This is quite a detailed piece on hand pain.spine-health.com/conditions...

thank you for the reply. I am hoping its not the PMR as I just reduced and am hoping I can stay at this lowered dose for a bit.

I wouldn’t leave it though if it is a daily occurrence.

Thanks, just wondering if it PCP, Rheumy or ortho Dr. 🤔

Well a GP needs to decide if you need a referral and if so who to, perhaps a physio to start, it depends.

Not necessarily in the US ...

Ah, I assumed it was UK because couldn’t see clues for it being US.

It is on the profile for a change but I took it first from the terms used: PCP, ortho doc

That is very true - I was hoping to bypass a step but without knowing the issue, I will start with GP (or PCP). I called today, and waiting... Thanks to all for the replies.
