Answer - most likely coincidental, probably the final straw to an already under stress immune system…have you been ill, been under any stress in previous months.

Hello, I don’t think anyone can say for certain what happens when one becomes ill with an autoimmune condition. Anything that stimulates the immune system has the potential to cause autoimmune activity. Judging by the stories here, PMR/GCA comes after a sustained period of stress, excessive activity, relentless being on the go, grief, illness, trauma etc. The final assault can seem like it was the only cause, like years of bad posture but you only do your back in when you pick up a tissue. However, personally I think vaccines, being made to induce a sudden increase in inflammatory state by necessity, are extra likely to do this. But, what’s the alternative? Some people here with established disease have flared after the vaccine and some didn’t. Why? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Other vaccines can be apparent causes of PMR too - but it is as the final straw that sends the immune system into a tail spin so that it attacks the body in error, being unable to recognise it as "self", A lifetime of random insults to the immune system, illness, accidents, environmental and chemical triggers, emotional and physical stress all mount up to fray the immune system - and eventually something becomes the straw that breaks the camel's back. It could be any of those factors - and any vaccine, not just the Covid one. Or the illnesses the jab was inteneded to protect you from. It is apparent that Long Covid bears a strong resemblance to various autoimmune disorders - and pretty nasty ones at that. And it is also now apparent that the vaccine protects you to some extent from Long Covid - even improving the symptoms retrospectively.
