I have recently started injecting metoject as an alternative to tablets as I struggled with the side effects. I am concerned about hair loss. I take folic acid every day except injection day. Has this happened to anyone, any advice would be really helpful. Thank you.

I’m probably not the best person to reply to this question as after Chemo l had very sparse hair regrowth.

When l went back on MTX Tablets it didn’t really impact on it, l now have my MTX by Metoject & l can’t say it’s affected my hair either way. I take Folic Acid 5mg x 6days also.

I haven't got any advice other than what you will find in the FAQs but yes, my hair got thinner on pred, falling out at about twice the normal rate, and then started to fall out in clumps on MTX. At first I only had folic acid once a week, but then that was increased twice to 6x weekly, which did help. I would say I've lost more than half of it. But as you're already on FA 6x weekly, maybe you will avoid the worst of it!

My hair came out in clumps within days of starting methotrexate tablets. It did stop as soon as I stopped them though. I had other problems so only lasted a month!

I’ve always meant to ask (then forgot) what dose did they start you on?…..

Honestly can't remember now - it was as a split dose, half before bed, half next morning. No nausea at all just everything else!

I am new to the Forum ……but l to started on 20 mg of Methotrexate injection form and l noticed my hair was thinking and falling out .I increased my folic acid from once a week to 6 times a week and it has improved .I hope this has helped

Hi. I had hear loss at first (when I was only taking 5mg folic acid) but this stopped when my folic acid was increased to 5mg 6 days a week.
