I spoke to my surgery today who said they would email a link which I assumed would be to book an appointment. It was the link on nhs site telling you where the drop in centres were. I have replied asking if I need to take anything
I received my 4th vaccination today with no problem when I showed my letter. The centre opened at 9.30 and I arrived at 9.15 and was the 3rd person to have their 4th jab. A plus it was my 4th Pfizer as well.
The change in vaccine for the booster was mainly for the AZ having been used for the first 2. The evidence was that Pfizer on its own did very well anyway, the 3rd jab with Pfizer in immunosuppressed patients brought the level of immunity up to the same as healthy subjects.
If you were on 10mg pred when you had the jabs, it is assumed to have compromised the development of your immunity. It isn't possible to test it easily - so you assume the worst ...
PMRpro - I was ready with the point about testing!! We learn so much on this site but actually my GP said to remind him when I get down to 3mg (I may have prompted him, I can't remember.
Just an update. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The circle is still turning.
I had a call from a nurse or a health care assistant (whatever that is) at the surgery. She didn't understand anything, even struggled with saying ‘immuno suppressed’ which left me wondering if she knows what it means. She had no idea about a fourth jab and clearly did not know what guidance is being given (she can be forgiven for that perhaps!). I would not accept this if I was worried: meanwhile I’ll hope that three Pfizer jabs is sufficient. The government keeps changing the information and I really have little energy to fight these people.
We left it that she would consult ( ‘dear’) and someone would get back to me (‘dear’).
Spoke to my doctor last week…quoted JCVI, said I was on10mg for first injection. He said I don’t need a 4th jab. I’m now on 5mg & he thinks I may be on the lower doses for a very long time after I struggled for a month on 3 & 4mg, tapering. End of story, he’s a good doctor, he’s supported me very well over past two years. He says that those jabs are important for people with certain types of cancer & some who’ve had chemo etc. but not needed in my case.
Having been invited for the 3rd jab (not booster) by my doctors I contacted them on Monday and have a letter to take with me to the drop in vaccination centre tomorrow. The wording was that they had been advised I should have a 4th vaccination
I'm pleased for all who have succeeded in their fourth. I am still waiting to see whether the surgery will do as they promised, look into it and send me a letter.
