I have a Abdomen and Pelvic scan next week and have not to have food for 6 hours before. My appointment is 1100.

Should I wait to take my Pred. No milk or milk products allowed.

I know you’re on a very low dose, but you may still need a little to help pre procedure, so you could take half a dose just before bed the evening before so you have some in your system in the morning ….and then take rest (or even usual dose depending on how you feel) after procedure.

I just took mine with water and did not bother with the cheese I normally have when I was in that position, even though I probably did not absorb it so well. As DorsetLady suggests you could just split the dose.

DLs advice sounds like a good plan to me , especially the suggestion to take the full dose , not just half the dose later on . You never know whether the Stress or physical process you have during the test might just trigger a bit of extra pain or inflammation.Good luck with the tests

I just thought. Could I take an enteric 2.5 with water . Then ,5 after the scan . Do enteric have to be taken with food or dairy

I think I'd go with the enteric the evening before with Todd as normal and the 5 after with your first meal after the procedure. Although an enteric coated steroid is gentler on the stomach you don't want to take take the chance of taking it that morning with no food and then finding it unsettles your stomach and makes it harder for you while you get the scan.

I still have yoghurt , a meal or milk with any enteric coated meds I take , not just the steroids , just to be sure that I don't get an issue.

The 2.5 the night before should tide you through the hours until the scans are done with the 5 mg to help you cope afterwards. You can take the next days dose at your usual time and the combination should help reduce the chance of you getting a mini flare of pain from the appointment.

I am on a 3mg tapering to 2.5 on the DL plan. But I take your point. I just realised I still had some 2.5 enteric left over from ages ago and thought that might work. 😊😊

It will definitely be more suitable to take the night before as long as you check the use by date.

No they don’t. I used to have to take e/c on an empty stomach or else I had a lower absorption. I was fine with that and I have a sensitive stomach.

DL’s advice is exactly how I would do it if it were me because it covers all bases.

Wait - or take it before bed if you can't face an alarm at 4.30am, which is what I would do.

Or take the enteric coated before bed - take it in the morning and it could potentially interfere with the scan - the undisintegrated tablet takes 4+ hours to reach the duodenum to be broken down.

My appointment has been changed to 12 noon. So I think I will set alarm for 5 and take with yogurt then. Thank you for replying 😊
