Hi all, and thanks for the daily help,

Was diagnosed Nov 21 on 15 mg and have now tapered down to 10 mg, my question is is it ok to have daily yoghurt with my pred, as I have been doing with no probs, or should I really take my omniprozal which I haven't thanks for any help

If you aren’t having any issues then stick with yogurt - many others do. Why add in another drug that has it’s own issues if not required.

It is fine to take omeprazole with prednisone...have been doing it for nearly 3 years. It seems there is a big difference in how people think about the drug, depending on the country you live in.

Fine to take your Pred with yoghurt at breakfast but something more substantial added like porridge oats and some berries is better. Why were you prescribed omeprazole? Do you suffer with gastric problems-acid reflux? If not, I personally wouldn't add it to the mix especially if it was prescribed as a preventative measure and not actually needed.

Thanks 123I do follow up with a hearty porridge and berry breakfast, just have preds a bit earlier with yoghurt, when making a morning cuppa

So a "just in case" - no wonder the drug costs in the NHS are ever increasing!!! If you need it, fair enough, but why assume that? They don't make a song and dance about it here - only if you need to take NSAIDs as well for any reason.

Hi. I was taking lanzaprazole as a preventative as well as yoghurt (4 a.m.) then stopped after reading posts. The started again after rheumy said that I could suddenly start bleeding without warning. I would prefer not to take them as I think my tingling palms are caused by it but am now totally confused. Help....!

My (usually very calm and considered) doctor went mad when I said I wanted to stop taking Omeprazole because it made me feel sick. He said I would certainly get a stomach ulcer if I did not continue with it. I read a lot about the drug and it is really not meant for long term, preventative use. I don’t take it and rely on yoghurt and kefir, porridge and a banana, with my morning dose of pred. I’m OK so far!

I only took Omeprazole when I was on 60 mg prednisone. Doctor told me I could stop taking it when I reduced to 40 mg. It’s been 6 months and I’ve been fine although I always eat something first such as yogurt.

There are side effects ( I call them effects) to drugs that suppress stomach acid taken over a long period of time, primarily osteoporosis and depression, because we need stomach acid to absorb minerals. Yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese--all much safer.
