I have been stiff and sore since June. I had terrible cough/virus. Stiffness and soreness started then. Been in quite a bit of pain. Could hardly get up stairs ,stand from kneeling and in agony through the night trying to turn. On day 5 of Prednisilone. Much much better but should I be completely fine? Still got a bit of soreness and feeling rather weepy about the whole thing. Bloods we’re cpr and esr raised. I was fit before the virus and no stiffness etc. Does this sound typical?

Hi and welcome!

First of all, I suggest you go to the FAQs post and read topics that appeal - get basic info and then ask more specific questions.

But yes - what you describe sounds pretty typical - and no, you may not yet be totally fine, some people take longer than others. Some people are never entirely pain-free, whatever some doctors may think! You do need to do yur part too though - being on pred doesn't mean you can go back to the level of activity you were at pre-PMR, you have to adjust your expectations and lifestyle but it takes time to work out how much.

You will feel weepy and upset - it is a very big change: PMR is not life-threatening but it is life-changing. It will get better - I promise.

Totally exactly like me my pred journey lasted 10 months tapering from 15 to zero. I gained weight developed thin skin experienced fatigue cried spontaneously and felt quite depressed

However after 10 months i tapered to zero and have been fine apart from getting a common cold recently when I felt a bit stiff and ached in the fingers the cold has cleared up and things are back to normal. It's tough psychology having PMR but there is light at the end of the tunnel good luck

I was just the same. The steroids acted like a miracle as I could hardly get out of bed and getting dressed was close to impossible. I have never been one hundred per cent pain free, but initially things got better over a few weeks. I had pain round my shoulders and found a hot shower or one of those things you put in the microwave and then put round my shoulders really helped. I did not really have any problems mentally though, but had hot sweats and sensitive teeth initially.

Very typical, I'm afraid. How much pred are you on?
