I wish everyone wore masks on public transport here in London.
I would make them compulsory.
Here in Wales they are, sadly many do not comply and as with many such instances these days however polite you are in asking someone to do so out comes the invective ........... or worse.
Over here (in Germany - as you know) one teenager was shot in the face because he asked a customer to put a mask on!!!!
Don't these people who refuse to wear masks realise they are potential murderers?
They'd rather believe the rubbish and bile spouted that this is the start of the next round of dictatorship and are unable to see that it is merely taking responsibility - something that is inherent in having rights ...
I don't think they understand the word 'responsibility'. Fancy not caring if someone becomes ill ( or even dying) because of something you have done! Doesn't bare thinking about!
They don't understand it - that vaccines don't provide 100% protection to anyone and that there are a lot of people out there where the protection is much lower because they are ill. Immunosuppression is becoming the new disability and racism problem.
Still mandatory in Scotland and to be fair people mostly still comply.

Ah ok, maybe we're just more law abiding up here! 😉 Seemed pretty good compliance in Edinburgh when I was there a few times recently but I guess there's a lot of local variation.

Same here - masks are required most places except out in the fresh air. There are plenty of people who apparently don't breathe through their noses though ...
In the Central Belt there was good compliance up to a fortnight ago. Then all of a sudden mask fatigue kicked in and lots of folk stopped even wearing them. Currently British Epidemiologists are saying that masks are an important part of our PPE to prevent a spread of the virus. Trains here, are losing the battle.
That’s good and reassuring to know! Although our numbers per 10k population are getting lower, the virus is circulating, my two grandsons have had Covid and not knowing where they may have contacted it.
Strangely someone at work who uses public transport to get there happened to mention today that she thinks mask compliance has reduced in the last week or so, so maybe the mask fatigue has spread to us now…? Shops still seem fine though. Our numbers are reducing too but suddenly everyone seems to know someone who’s actually got it… I’m pleased I’m getting my booster next week.
Here too, Ontario, and most people comply.

I do wish they had kept the mask wearing compulsory here in the UK. I have been wearing mine in shops and on buses but there's an increasingly amount of people not bothering now of all ages.
It is still compulsory in parts of the UK. England is the outlier.
I get so frustrated to know that for most people, 'common sense won't prevail'! I too wish mask wearing was still compulsory in indoor or confined settings.I continue to wear mine hoping in some small way that I'm leading by example!
Should be made compulsory and remain so with on the spot financial fines for non compliance using cctv etc to enforce and deducted from benefits of every sort at source. Pandemic would soon be under control in developed countries !
I was at the hospital on Tuesday and a PALS volunteer had to tell someone, "Put your mask on." Unbelievable!
Much to my irritation they now hand a clean new mask to everyone going in, which you have to put on, even if you're wearing an N95 and they are handing you a surgical mask. Next time I'm just going to put their's on over mine.... the covid police do not let you past the threshold if you're not masked so I don't think even the Queen would get away with no mask!

I was told recently I was a “terrible person” and had “no right to talk to people like that”when I mildly asked a ( young) couple if they’d noticed the sign and heard the repeated announcements stating it was obligatory to wear face coverings on the underground ( we were in Vauxhall tube station)
You were lucky you got away with that so easily. People have been punched, kicked, and one poor teenager shot in the face for saying just that.
I’ve always believed in looking over the parapet, as it were. As long as one uses courtesy… and yes, I’m sure it helps being a white female of a certain age …

Boris needs to be saying this loud and clear and wearing them should be compulsory in public places and on public transport. I travel on the tube every day and am in the minority as a mask wearer. We all saw where letting the public decide things got us when they came up with the name Boaty McBoatface…grrr!!!
We've just been told to expect public health measures to remain in place for the winter. Includes masks. Unfortunately you can eat and drink in public, so there are places I have to go where I don't hang around. They have also announced that as of six months after second vaccine everyone can get a booster. Have been giving these to certain restricted groups already, including those receiving their first two doses close together as per initial recommendation from manufacturer. Apparently those of us who had to wait ages were lucky after all! Feeling sort of nervous about our lengthy train ride to and from Ontario. They have just allowed covid testing of symptomatic persons in a certain chain of drugstores there. How they plan to keep customers safe remains to be seen. 😱

The business will see a big uptick in delivery service requests, and an even bigger drop in the incidental purchases ppl make when they shop in person. No such nonsense in my province thankfully. As for the eating and drinking, people are supposed to be masked when not actually consuming, but I see them chatting away unmasked. There is rather well-contained community spread so the risk is low in my area, but because of age and pred I'm very careful.

When I occasionally venture out I am finding antiviral hand wash dispensers to be empty. Even in hospitals. We need to carry our own but there is a complacency that wasn’t there last year.

Yes there is…and it’s partly down to people believing the vaccines are all we need to protect ourselves, and partly down to people wanting life to get back to how it was pre Covid
Yup - whereas the truth was and is that the vaccine is just one part of living with Covid - the non-pharmaceutical measures are just as essential - not least to subdue any new variant that escapes the vaccines.
And are too thick to realise "life will get back to normal" MUCH quicker if they WEAR THE MASKS.
But wearing a mask isn't back to normal. There have just been vox pops on a Sky article - "everyone has been jabbed" and "I just want to get back to normal " without the slightest clue that that alone isn't enough, immunity wanes and new variants will appear that vaccines won't protect against - but a mask and the other measures that worked last year work on different principles.

Indeed this is scandalous. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Hospitals should insist he wears a mask and show respect for the work they do in fighting Covid and the patients who are in hospital.
Even Trump reluctantly wore a mask at least once in a hospital during a televised tour. It even looked like he was pretending to sport it like part of a uniform. What a child! Nowadays there seems to be little consistency in mask wearing among the "ruling" classes. 😷

Hi, I wear my mask if I go out which is not very often but it’s surprising to see how many people don’t bother, it’s quite beyond me as to why they think they don’t need to.
If we would all wear our masks then the spread of this virus would go down. As it is I wouldn’t be surprised if we have another lockdown, Europe is having another wave, how long before it hits uk?
I think the UK was ahead in the 4th wave - and it has been spread over a long period because there wasn't tighter restriction or masks. Europe has become complacent because we do live outdoors more during the summer and now people are back inside together it is spreading like wildfire. Some countries are worse than others because of the relatively low level of jabs but the delay here is also due to the vaccine programme having all got going later than in the UK where the immunity also started waning sooner.
We’ve been to the Theatre twice since September, one had a mixed age group, the other an ‘older’ age group & we were staggered to see hardly anyone was wearing a mask! We’re going again next week so it’ll be interesting to see how many are wearing them…….

I agree wholeheartedly to wearing a mask. I’ve now been taking care of two positive people in my home and wearing my mask at all times except for eating and sleeping I am still symptoms free even though I can’t get them to wear them when I deliver food or drink.
I even sat in the ED room for over six hours with my husband and I’m still negative.
And then spent a couple of hours in my car with him to go to his appointment for monoclonal antibody therapy. These times he wore his mask too.
So wear your mask and stay safe.
