I did as I got to the end because I couldn’t cut my coated Pred. I took the coated first and then the uncoated about 3 hours later because it’s absorbed faster. It was all guesswork but it worked for me.

You can get coated 1mg prednisolone, ask your GP surgery to change your prescription if you don’t want to mix them.

I’ve mixed coated ( 5mg )and uncoated ( 1mg ) for years. I can say I haven’t noticed any difference. I was on 13mg for a very long time. Take care.

I put my uncoated pred in empty enteric capsules when I take my 11pm dose (it is processed and absorbed by 2am). I take the remainder of my split dose of uncoated pred just plain with food at 11am. No problem.

Just be aware that coated pred takes longer to be processed by your body, than uncoated pills.

I have just been prescribed 2.5mg coated pred as I am tapering to 17.5mg tomorrow. My 5mg tablets are uncoated. The pharmacy has added a note on the label saying do not take Indigestion medicine 2 hours before or after taking this medicine. Does that include omeprazole? There's nothing on the PIL about this.

I have seen it somewhere - but of course I can't find it now!! The PPI will change the acid level in the stomach - and that could interfere with the passage of the enteric coated pred through the stomach. It is designed to break down in the more alkaline environment of the lower GI tract - if the stomach is less acid, it may start to break down there,

Oh, maybe I should take the 2.5mg uncoated later in the day then?

2.5mg coated or uncoated? You've said both now.

Sorry, brain fog... 2.5mg is coated.

I'd take it before bed - the rest in the morning

Thanks, though I take calcium at bedtime. Also, wouldn't it be too big a drop as I'll only be taking 15mg on the morning instead of 20.

Yes - but only once. I wouldn't suggest it on a permanent basis ...

I rang the pharmacist yesterday. She told me that both the uncoated and coated pred need to be taken separately from the omeprazole. I told her I have been taking them both at the same time for the last 3 months as I had been instructed to by the GP. (It is only now I have the 2.5mg that the new instruction to take them separately was given). She said not to worry, it should only have a minor effect on the absorption of the steroids. However from now-on I'll take them separately. Trouble is, I was told to take them both just after breakfast, as early as possible so it'll mean getting up even earlier!
