Help on dosing

Can I mix and match prednisolone tablets?

eg. 5+2.5+1. = 8.5

or 5+1+1+1+1/2. = 8.5

Going to taper slower than rheumatologist says.

Yes of course you can……are they all plain uncoated white ones or the enteric coated ones?

Sometimes it can be a bit of a problem if you mix the two varieties because they are absorbed differently.

Just checked and the 2.5 are gastro resistant! I did have them with lain chalky ones when I was on 12.5 and 17.5 though.

Okay - well see how it goes…as it will be a bigger proportion of dose you may need to take it slightly earlier than rest. But you won’t know until you try.

If I had a choice I avoided cutting, so if I had a 2.5 I wouldn’t cut a 1 because I assumed the dose is more accurate in the whole pill than the cut one. If I had no choice I cut. I don’t know how critical it is though. By the time I was cutting 1’s into quarters I decided the dose was so low by then a bit of inaccuracy didn’t matter so much.

I've happily cut mine, 5mg are straightforward and 1mg more fiddly.

I recently spoke to Rheumatologist and said about half dose he said to avoid cutting if I took eg 9 one day

8 next day

and carry on with alternate day it is a half without cutting tablet this is for 6weeks then I would go to 8 for 6 weeks then do the same for 8 and 7

I hope that make sense.

Yes it makes sense. Will mention it to my rheumatology nurse/gp.
