SHOULDER PROBLEM ..

PMR diagnoStarted Preds @15mg ,Daily I am reducing by 1mg per month , as requested by Rheumatologist I am now on 13mg daily all has been fine until my daughter has noticed my right shoulder has drooped ( I had actually also noticed it a few days ago ) My PMR did start in this shoulder before spreading itself across to the left shoulder etc etc . Is this something that happens usually ? it is not a major problem at all it just makes me look like Quasimodo ! and I am curious about it . Thank you

Hi My PMR started from my shoulder & at various times l definitely have a dropped shoulder.

Have a look in a mirror & see if you can stretch both arms up above you head by the same distance 🙋🏻 If you can put your arm over your head & touch your shoulders 🙆🏻 Try each arm separately - l have to do this as my left shoulder (it’s always my left) is playing up & l’ve had an impingement in that shoulder.

If can see that one side is more reduced than the other you may need some physio but gentle stretches first thing in the morning may help & again in the shower. Always stretch as far as you can then pull back by 10% so as not to damage the muscle.

Let us know how you get on - shoulders are a pain 😖 watch if you are a big handbag kinda girl as that can cause problems. I’m always emptying mine & keep to a smaller one (or two) but l did use a large bag on Tuesday & popped a lot of extra bits in it & it was quite heavy - so that may have caused mine.

Good Luck

The RA in my shoulder and neck made me change from a shoulder bag to a cross body bag, then a short handle that I carry and now to a light weight ruck sack which on a bad day hubby puts on me or I wear it on the front. Lots of water proof cheap ones around this year. Plus it’s cool apparently 👍🏻

Keep thinking of that - cross-body bags are definitely not "me".

I have a dropped, painful and limited motion shoulder due to a previous fracture and OA, I’ve found that a rucksack is definitely the way to go for me - with, as you say, the added bonus that my husband will occasionally carry it 😎

A d if it’s a cold day it also keeps your back warm too 😉

Very true. I've given up on handbags and shoulder bags completely. I wear a bum bag most days. And use small rucksack if I need to carry more. Made a huge difference.

Never ever heard anyone say that before!!! How strange!

I have noticed the last few month that my bra straps are falling offsideways but I think it is loss of fat pads on my shoulders - the indentations due to the straps have gone. That's nice but the strap problem is irritating

Would love that problem !😜

There are other places I'd rather lose the fat from ;)

If only I could starting from the top and working down to the bottom !!🙄😁

Note I do not have PMR but Stills which manifests as RA.At my recent IN PERSON physio appointment I was told steroid injections are temporary pain relief only.

Depends what they are being used for - sequential injections are a "thing" for PMR and, if necessary, for GCA.

Hi Harrywogan, I think you have misread my post, I have dropped 1mg per MONTH and am now on 13 mg daily. I would not be brave enough to dare try to drop 1mg per day ! :-)

Just wrote about this on another thread! Have had issues off and on with my right shoulder. I do know I had major bilateral shoulder problems pre-diagnosis and pred. Not sure what is causing this, whether OA (shoulder one area that has not been x-rayed) , referred pain from arthritic spine, or PMR. Is helped by aspirin, when not too bad even acetaminophen, but when that stops helping, extra pred works. I can't taper back below 4 mg without the shoulder flaring even when all the rest of me is fine.
