Vascular Inflammation seen in Covid, Long haulers and post vaccine long haulers

Thinking that there could be a crossover here of what they have found in the Vascular Inflammation seen in Covid, Long haulers and post vaccine long haulers - with PMR.

For those smarter than me - what are your thoughts? Possibility of other treatments

Will have to find time to plough through it - but the opening remarks didn't impress me: "this pandemic is winding down". Is it hell ...

However - PMR is often apparently triggered by a vaccine or other illness. I'm far from sure that long haul Covid is any different. We have also had ME/CFS acknowledged as a post viral problem for many years. And we know that for many patients exercise can cause a flare as is discussed in the early part of the talk.

I remember asking a question to Prof Dasgupta at the launch of the DVD jinasc posted about recently and part of it was whether PMR/GCA was a vasculitis, can't remember the rest 12 years on. But it can happen with or without the S1 protein. But they are talking about TNF - and PMR doesn't respond to anti-THF medications. If anything it is likely to be the IL-6 drugs like tocilizumab that can play a role. And they are a lot more expensive than pred!!!

If they did similar research on PMR they probably would find out what the mechanism is and that is the basis for identfying a treatment or cure - but they aren't going to get the unlimited funding that has been available for Covid.

Thanks PMRpro.

As for pandemic winding down - I’m not sure where they are referring to - but I do know in SA that in the first wave it was mostly the black population that got hit badly - they live in close spaces.

2nd wave - the Indian community and third wave the white community.

After the first wave a very large proportion of the black community had reached herd immunity -same for the Indian population after the 2nd wave.

So SA has the Delta variant at the moment. Hopefully many will have reached herd immunity after this. SA’s vaccination has been slow.

Fascinating stuff! Too technical for me, so I didn't watch all of it but what I got from it was that the scientists/doctors have found treatments for long Covid and vaccine induced long Covid symptoms, and that these are similar to our autoimmune diseases like PMR, fibromyalgia etc and so the treatments should be able to help these too. This sounds very promising!I love Dr Mobeen - very clear and does lovely drawings!

Thanks for posting

He has incredibly interesting people on. Recently had Dr Shankara Chetty on - an SA doctor working in quite poor communities - who treated 100s of patients from his home - and didn’t lose one. So inspiring:
