I've posted a few times about how we cannot assume we are safe. Even healthy people don't have 100% protection from Covid - they can still get it and with the delta variant that risk is even higher. The vaccine is not a get out of jail card - it is part of the pathway to returning to a more normal lifestyle and that includes distancing, testing and isolation of positives and, above all, wearing masks for everyone in gatherings or inside. If everyone had stuck to that - we wouldn't be in the mess we are. And to all intents and purposes, despite vaccination, anyone immunosuppressed can't assume they are significantly better of than this time last year.

Here is a link for the article for others to read it:

The more I read - the less I want to add a second immunosuppressant to the steroids. We KNOW they work for PMR and GCA - we DON'T know the DMARDs help, they certainly don't help everyone. Immunologists have already expressed concern about the effect on the immune ssytem of doubling, even tripling, of immunosuppressant medications , even long before Covid. We are going to require booster shots in the future as new variants develop, and develop they will as long as the number of Covid infections remains high.

It’s a very grave choice mankind faces, of biblical proportions perhaps.

A friend down the road has just got Covid after two vaccinations. Very fit and teaches at a nursery. She says she would not wish it on her worst enemy. She knows Piers Morgan who also has Covid after two vaccinations.

Children are known to be virus superspreaders. I'm increasingly hearing of Covid cases in children in my local community.

What most of us were shouting at the London government when they insisted children weren't a problem!!! They might not be as sick as adults - but they probably spread it more. Especially since they rarely are asked to wear a mask

You are quite right. It's also been said that although younger people may have a mild case they may have symptoms for several months. One of our local secondary schools have had scores of students isolating and staff members off sick. 🤷‍♀️

My daughter lives in Hong Kong and children from the age of 2 upwards HAVE to wear masks.

My niece is in HK, they have had a lovely, normal, summer - it could have been done in the UK too if they weren't so blinkered ...

Yes, everything is pretty back to normal there. Although travel is still an issue with quarantine in a hotel for 3 weeks being mandatory. If you are fully vaccinated, which a very small percentage are, you only have to quarantine for one week, but they are still undecided on the children, which still makes it impossible. It was all due to rich Chinese supposedly in quarantine and going out to clubs etc and spreading the disease, so they changed it to a hotel and three weeks! Also anyone travelling in or out have to have a positive antibody result. So if you are there, it's fine, but if you want to come in and out it is tough.

I am sure that she caught it from the nursery. She is really ill in spite of two jabs.

A local village suddenly went from zero to 10 cases - one in the summer kindergarten tested positive - and then they all did. It's happening all over ...

It had become increasingly clear that just because you are fully vaccinated does not mean you can continue as all is normal again. I will probably wear a mask in public for the rest of my life and keep social distance protocols. Sad but the alternative is not an option for me.

I had a severe H1N1 infection back in 2009/2010. I am one of the few who survived an extremely bad course. I was on a teach for almost 3 months and in coma for 6 weeks. I still have to live with the after affects. Yes, I am a long hauler.

We just need to be smart and live with the realization that our lives have completely changed.

You have been through the mill! Adapting and adjusting is the way forward.

live in Texas. Tis llstening and watching the news saw that the state of Florida is now back to where it was at worst of last year. The governor had opened up the complete state and is at war with the cruise ships which want proof of vaccination before passengers can board. Here the number of infected and deaths is again rising. The governor has forbidden local control, so it is simply up to the individual to act I am once again wearing a mask when taking Lily to the park and also when I do any shopping. Will do it also when go to doctor this afternoon

Something similar has happened in the Netherlands I gather - opened up, vast increase in cases ... What did they expect?

Here it has become a political thing in many ways. There are the anti-vaxers and those who are Trump followers. These people are not only endangering themselves but also the rest of us. It is realyl tragic with all the conspiracy theories

Everyone has a right to choose. It’s not about politics and should not be stated as so. How long will this go on? Let’s just all be responsible adults.

If only we all were.

Yes, everyone has a right to choose but if they chose not to be vaccinated then they have to accept that there may be certain activities they will be unable to take part in. Sadly, it is very much about politics in some parts of the world and from previous/present experiences we all know that not everyone will behave like a responsible adult.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Peptink

Unfortunately - it is the being responsible that seems to be the problem.

Peptink profile image
Peptink in reply to PMRpro

Exactly! Nothing to do with politics. It is simply being an adult, gathering the information and making the best decision for yourself.

My daughter just said she had a horrendous night in A&E, relentless, as bad as Sat daytime. Receptionist said she'd never seen anything like it. Fewer staff, more patients and lots of them didn't need A&E. Time to charge people - and a tent outside with volunteer staff from StJ or Red Cross for drunks to sleep it off - and a bill at the end, proceeds to the charity
