New guidance for CEV due

Hi all

New guidance for some of us due out soon - this is a copy of a tweet from Ton Newton-Dunne (chief political commentator).

Hopefully this is reassuring in some way. Personally for me it means I have protection at work to refuse parts of my role.

New guidance is coming from Dept of Health in a few days for the immuno-suppressed and clinically very vulnerable over what to do at Step 4, I understand, after senior government figures admitted to charity groups today they should have done more for them this week (1)

Expected to involve a degree of shielding for them while the third wave lasts, probably until September. Charities estimate 500,000 people have a lot less protection from vaccines. Half suffer from cancer. Many are terrified, and have been given no official advice what to do (2)

Follows a meeting today between charities such as Blood Cancer UK, Jonathan Van Tam and Lord Bethell brought together by Lib Dem peer Sal Brinton. One at it tells me JVT + Bethell accepted it “wasn’t good enough and they had to do more” for them. More on @TimesRadio after 7am (3)

Reassuring? Not really - it'll be more fluff and hot air long before anything is implemented.

I suspect the real figure is way over half a million.

I'm sure it will fall well short. But glad blood cancer UK is getting through to them on some front.

So sad to read ‘many are terrified’. This could have been avoided with a bit of common sense. Unnecessary suffering.
