Thanks for all the advice after my last post. Does anyone have any recommendations for rheumatologists? I’m in Nottinghamshire but have the flexibility to travel Midlands wide. Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

Rheumatologist recommendations
Hello chess430 , I’m based near Rugby and recently saw Dr Tracey Toms at The Warwickshire Nuffield and now waiting to be transferred to her NHS team at Warwick. I expect you’ll get recommendations for rheumatologists a bit nearer but I was very impressed with her, she listened to me, was through in her investigations and discussed ongoing treatment. She was lovely and very easy to talk to. I can PM her secretary’s number/email if you don’t think it’s too far to travel. Hope you get sorted.
Hi Maisie
Interesting post. I live in Warwick. The rheumi I saw at the Nuffield, Dr Vasta, didn't impress me terribly much.
Not sure that i need another consult just yet but when i do i will perhaps check out your suggestion.
Was it the Nuffield just outside Leamington ?
Best wishes
Nick

Been collecting a list of specialists (for around 2 years) who have a good recommendation from other patients.
Check him out on the Hospital website.
Hi jinasc. Just wondering if you have a London based recommendation for PMR specialist as think my gp is going to refer me on and I want to be prepared. Pmrpro recommend Rod Hughes in Chertsey but think it’s a bit far to go and don’t know if my gp will refer me there. Thanks very much.
Whether it is too far to go is your decision - but one lady from Kent travelled to Leeds to see Prof Mackie because Kent is an absolute desert for good rheumies! She had also previously been to Southend to see Prof Dasgupta who did think it was GCA but wasn't helpful otherwise with managing her symptoms. It was Prof Mackie who made the correct diagnosis - ankylosing spondylitis, not PMR/GCA - and got her the correct drug.
Thanks. Another quick question so I am sure of my ground with GP conversation: should I ask her to refer me directly to Rod Hughes clinic and is there any difficulty in specifying I want to see him rather than any other rheumatologist in same trust. I would travel for a good rheumatologist if I can get one and think GP may refer me on.
She can and can say you want to see him - whether the hospital will play ball is another matter and they had suspended f2f clinics in rheumatology for a very long time while Rod Hughes continued f2f consultations in his private practice. He also does transfer patients to his NHS clinic if appropriate after he has seen them privately.
Someone on another site recommended Dr Nicholas Raj at Derby Royal said they had a Nuffield appointment but not quite sure what that is.
