Today went to the dentist after two months of jaw popping. First question Do you have Arthritis? He took X-rays and did exam and felt it was muscular known as TMD. I could try a night guard. It may work or may not at the price of $400. Did not recommend surgery but keep going to physio.
Came home so discouraged as he felt it is connected with PMR. Not a pleasant thing to live with. Am going to ask the physiotherapist about the night guard. What next?

My dentist recommended the same thing. I paid £200.00 for it, hardly used it and until now I had forgotten about the symptom. I think I was stressed at the prospect of GCA ( I now have it) to add to my PMR. In my case I think it was tension, worry and possible teeth grinding. I hope yours disappears too.
I don't have jaw popping but clenched my teeth at night when stressed (nightly) and have worn a night guard for years. Never sleep without one. I am getting a new one next week and it will cost £150. Good luck.
Did the physiotherapist not offer treatment? Mine did. I suddenly had the jaw popping sensation while eating dinner and it persisted. I had a physio appointment a few days later, mentioned it to her and she worked on the muscles around the joint and down the side of my neck (the sternocleidomastoid muscle) for a bout 20 minutes. Problem solved.
If I was you I would ask an Osteopath. They deal with the whole muscular skeletal system, not just backs. Mine got rid of my Carpel Tunnel problems so there was no need for surgery.
I too was having the feeling of my jaw out of kilter. My dentist recommended a night guard and problem solved. Can’t go to sleep without it. Going on ten years.
