Hi, started on 15mg of pred on Tues. only about 20% relief from pain between lunchtime and bedtime only. I take it between 6-7am.

Is this normal please?

One would hope for a better percentage ....around 70% is often quoted.....but only 2 days in perhaps you are expecting too much, too soon.

Some do get immediate and fantastic results, but not everybody....... and you may find that 15mg is not enough for you.

Have you been given any advice about contacting doctor in this situation? I would personally try a few days longer and see if there is an discernible improvement....if not then you need to speak to doctor.

You may need a starting dose of 20mg - 15mg is not always enough and the most recent recommendations say "the lowest effective dose in the range 12.5 to 25mg".

However, 3 days is very early in the process - I got noticeable relief in under 6 hours and some people expect that but sometimes it takes a week or even more. at a lower dose. A study found that 75% of patients got good relief in a month (!) on 12.5mg - with smaller women doing better than larger men.

If you still aren't any better on Monday maybe ask the GP if you can try 20mg.

thanks for the constructive advice, unlike other people.

Bit unfair on a sample of one who actually gave a perfectly reasonable response.

I reallly cannot see what was wrong with Dorset Lady’s reply. It was certainly not abrupt and assumptive. Perhaps you should read it again. I have to say I was quite shocked at your reply to someone who was trying to be helpful

Before you start criticising a highly respected, long standing member of this community, perhaps you should re read your own post. You were not asking for advice but asking a question, to which the answer would be no, it's not generally normal. Post answered. However, because of the extremely helpful nature of everyone on this forum you got two extremely informative and accurate replies which gave you a lot more relevant information about your disease, which you could either ignore or take note of, that is obviously your choice. If you want to ask a further question asking for information or advice I am sure that members will be happy to help if they can.

Well I always speak as I find and treat ppl the way they treat me, I've only been on here couple of months but have found everyone advise or suggestions really helpful and never had a problem with anything that anyone has said, I think you need to re read what was written cause I dont think it was aggressive
