I have been on methylprednisolone for about 15 months. When I reached 8mg. in my descent, my hair started thinning, to the point that I’ve lost about half of my hair. My doctor has ran numerous deficiency tests, and that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Has anyone else experienced this type of hair loss?

Hair loss
Yes, this is quite a common side-effect. My hair loss got even worse when I was put on Methotrexate and when it grew back it changed from thin, fine straight hair to very curly! I loved it curly but, unfortunately it has been falling out more recently again and I am losing the curl which I am upset about!
Methyl prednisolone caused a lot of nasties but I can't remember my hair falling out - I saved that for methotrexate! But methyl pred did make my hair like a brillo pad - the texture was awful, it stopped growing and losing it might have been preferable. My hair has recovered in the meantime - back to being thick and it grows again. But it does get frizzy if it gets damp or in humid weather.
My hair fell out and grew back just fine but now since a bad flare in June my hair is falling out heavily with about 1/4 left. I am at 5 mm prednisone and I thought it would stop but it hasn't.
Hi ronswife my hair fell out too but did grow back curley too. It will go back to normal but it takes time. Help it with some German shampoo.its great.ritter
Hair can fall out in response to systemic illness, it is quite common, so not necessarily a deficiency. I had two sheddings, first it fell out 5 months in, grew back and then did it again with the stress of poor adrenal function because it grew back once that settled.
Hi SandraI hope it grows back, I lost all of mine pre PMR all part of a horrible auto immune journey I have been on as a result of chronic stress. I have alopecia totalise which means I have lost my hair from everywhere for good as my Immune system distroyed it all. My only advice is that if it isn't returning try and get an appointment with a dermatologist as you can have steroid injections into the scalp to calm your immune system from attacking the hair follicles. I wish I had gone earlier to see a dermatologist but I was dealing with a lot of other things at the time and my hair loss was bottom of the pile. Good luck and best wishes
