Leg cramps
I take a Magnesium supplement when this happens, it seems to help.
I managed to get my GP to prescribe quinine sulfate. It works like magic, but they are none too keen on prescribing it any more.
I found reducing my Omeprazole from 20 to 10 mgs got rid of legs cramps completely
I take Magnesium tablet daily and make sure I walk every day the combination seems to work
~I'm never without oral magnesium tablet x 2 daily along with magnesium cream for legs @ night. I drink coconut water each day too + Indian tonic water (quinine) @ night should I get an attack.
I find not drinking too much in evening reduces these attacks. If you are really troubled in evenings basis pop feet/lower legs into bucket warm water containing Epsom salts/mint leaves/rose petals. I add the latter 2 as a luxury.
I take hydrocortisone as opposed to pred -don't think this fact makes any difference.
I'm into my 6th year of PMR.
Hope you find something amongst my lineup to help -good luck.
Too much Vitamin D causes leg cramps.
Surely it is a deficiency of Vit D that is more likely to cause cramping? From what I have read, megadoses can potentially affect bone health amongst other things. Then again, over-dosing on anything is likely to cause adverse side-effects. In UK at least, we are advised to keep our Vit D levels "subsidised" if we can't get out in the sun daily. I took magnesium supplement when I suffered badly with cramps and, complemented with exercise/stretching - this eased things.
It would have to be a VERY high level of vit D, above 150 ng/ml, but I can't find anything that includes cramps as a symptom. You would have to take exceptionally high levels of supplement, 50,000 IU per week on a long term basis, many months at least, without having the level checked.
I take vit d every day and this was tested with my blood test last week and they it was fine
