Only initially - but I had lost sight in one eye! The Ophthamologist told me I could drive after a month, but I didn’t feel I wanted to until about the 3 month mark. After that no issue, DVLA medical department also said I could drive after a month provided I could pass sight test with existing eye - I could.

But GCA without sight issues should be okay - but you need to ensure you are able.

Have you been advised not to drive?

No not been advised not to drive I assume it's because my eyesight is 20 20

Ok...I guess that’s because you’re in the United States and their rules for driving are different. But as 2020 vision is considered average sight, there must be an awful lot of people driving who shouldn’t be.Is your field of vision affected?

Well then you should be okay - sight wise. But as others have said maybe not medication-wise. Who told you not to? Or was it just a question because you weren’t sure?

It can partly be associated with the dose of pred you are on - in some people higher doses can impair judgement and reaction times as well as concentration.

No but I took myself off the road voluntarily because I thought high dose steroid was impairing my reaction time and concentration. It wasn’t a huge amount of loss but much can happen in a few seconds in a vehicle.

Yes when I was on higher doses of pred, but I could make up my own mind depending on how I felt. If I woke up feeling spaced out ( my description of it), I knew that this was going to be a no drive day. It happened every 2 to 3 days

What do you all class ‘high doses’ as

Generall regarded as over 20mg per day. However, pred affects different people differently - some are fine, some react to low doses too until the body gets used to it.
