Urine frequency

Hi, can anyone tell me if pred makes you urinate frequently. I've been several times today and was just wondering. I haven't had more fluids than normal.

Thanks

Is it peeing more in total or frequency with small volumes? Lots of people find pred makes them pee at night a lot more. Frequency can be an early sign of a urinary tract infection - pred can make you more susceptible to them. And it can also cause irritable bladder syndrome - though so can PMR. It is all a bit complicated!!!!

I watch TV, read newspapers and keep in contact with my friends and family on the computer. The forum is up and running in the background so I see new posts when they are put up. I do take time off sometimes ...

Me too. Renember our muscles in that area may be weaker too like the rest of our body.

DefinitelyOn high doses of pred. But when I’d reduced below 5 mg no longer a problem. Found slim pads helped as once bladder wanted to empty wasn’t always quick enough with trousers!

Like Linlang....required loo more frequently during night on higher doses but this improved on doses from 7.5mg down. Think being a post menopausal woman....weaker pelvic floor etc doesn't help either!🙄

Also found when developed pre diabetic issues whilst on higher pred frequency an issue. Then leg problems and doctor gave me diuretics. On cruise went into captains talk and had to exit quickly..a rather unsavoury experience!!

Along with all the other 'body' things to do in the day to keep ourselves going, it's worth adding pelvic floor exercises. At least they can be done whilst you're doing something else.

yes, me too - I think they irritate the bladder and tubes. If they feel anything like how offensive they are in your mouth (I wash them down double quick) when taking them, then I am not surprised.

Yes I've had times when I seemed to be weeing all the time. Mostly on doses of between 30mg and 15mg of Pred. My GP called it a sensitive bladder or irritable bladder. It's not so bad now I am on 5mg but still get some bladder irritation. I've had dip tests and cultures but no infection shows up.

Before I was diagnosed I was up several times in the night with an overactive bladder or noctoria. I had no problems during the day. I'd had an ultrasound but nothing sinister was found. However since being on prednisolone my night time visits have increased by a lot, sometimes I'm up 5 or 6 times a night. Again, no problems during the day. It seems to happen when I lie down. I took a course of antibiotics just in case I had UTI but there doesn't appear to be an issue. I go to bed very early so I can rest my body to make up for the disturbed sleep. My blood pressure has gone up too. It used to hover around 119/78, now it's more like 140/81. It gets to it's lowest after I've exercised......

I kept getting urine infections after being diagnosed with PMR/GCA thought it was the condition and steroids. I've been tested for diabetes and am now Type 2, am taking Metformin and stopped processed carbs and sugar. No infections, more energy and feel better. I know we are all different but worth being tested .

I brought this up a couple of weeks ago, my problem isn’t just an increased number of loo visits, but constant, uncontrollable leaking all through the day whenever I walk about, or go for a walk. But, I can sleep several hours a night in bed with no problem, and just get up once in the night for a pee. Came on within a couple of weeks of beginning medication. Awaiting a referral but obviously, in current times, am not expecting anything soon.
