I’m typing this flat on my back in bed with severe stomach cramps and inflammation. It started 4 days ago when I vomited up the previous evenings meal and my whole torso went into spasm. I have seen the doctor and am taking buscopan and paracetamol neither of which are helping much. I have just been prescribed coedine as a last resort.
The reason for this question is that the inflammation reminds me of PMR and costroconditis and I wonder if the vomiting could have caused a PMR flare in addition to the IBS? I may also have missed a steroid dose due to the whole episode. Any insight would be gratefully received.

Vomiting will certainly cause very sore muscles! Does the GP have any answers about what caused it? PMR flares can easily be triggered by illnesses of all sorts. And what do you mean by "inflammation"? In what form?
There are forms of inflammatory arthritis which are associated with gut problems.
Some of the variation mentioned there are also often confused with PMR - especially the spondyloarthropathies and psoriatic arthritis which can have polymyalgic presentations.
I had similar symptoms, wound up in hospital twice with high temp and dehydration, subsequently referred to gastro-enterologist and was diagnosed with diverticular disease. Your intestine is a bit like a worn tyre (I know, romantic!). It has pockets that can become inflamed and cause troubles. nhs.uk/conditions/diverticu.... It can be helped with diet - if I get symptoms I eat white bread, eggs, bananas and give the tum a break. I drink a lot of water. It just may be worth considering as well as Polymyalgia itself or side effects of Pred. Good luck. All these unpleasant symptoms are very wearing! 🌺
Thank you for the information, the inflammation referred to was in my chest area and thankfully has eased as have the stomach cramps. The GP is thinking that it might have been caused by a severe episode of acid reflux. I will have a long overdue battery of blood tests in the new year and hopefully some investigative tests.
