Hi all. Just an update not sure if it good news or not but spoke to dr this morning cause pain bad today hes agreed to bring blood tests forward to wed instead of jan as planned and steroid tablets but got to wait til after blood test to start them so they dont affect results but this was different dr today and as I've only just turned 50 he thinks I'm to young for this to be pmr and it must be something else. So now I'm thinking which dr do Ido I listen to.

Glad he agreed to giving you a trial of steroids over Christmas?

To be taken after the blood test, but before results are back....then at least you can have a semi decent Christmas. A week or even two on steroids won’t cause any issues, but might give some answers.

If it were me for now I'd have more faith in the doctor who had your blood test appointment brought forward and has prescribed steroids. PMR is well known in younger patients.

Over 50 is the criterion! And since no-one tells PMR it can't affect someone of 49 it is a rather silly excuse! I was 51 when my symptoms started.

Hopefully starting pred on Wednesday will have you in a decent place for xmas.

The only thing I know at moment is got to start taking them wed after blood. 3 a day for a wk by then blood be back. Dont know if they are pred or dosage. Will update wed. Safe safe everyone

Are you unsure of the dosage, it’s usually 3 x 5mgm tablets once daily, taken in the morning. Take them after food, or with yoghurt which helps to protect your stomach

I hope the steroids kick in, and give you some relief. I was 49 when started pred and recently diagnosed with PMR at 50. Good luck and take care 🤞

Hi Karen I had the same problem I was 48 and two doctors laughed and said you are far to young for PMR I went to the head doctor in the practice who is older and been there a long time and he treated me right away so keep pushing it .

Hope he disillusioned his young colleagues!! Not PMR but I had an experience with a kidney infection when the young blood in the practice decided flank pain was muscular. When I kept going back over months because I was systemically ILL, he decided I fancied him because I had marital problems!!! Cheeky sod said as much! I managed to identify when the old man was there and told my story. He held out a script for abx and an urgent appointment for a kidney scan. There was already scarring on the kidney.

That is terrible I can’t believe he thought you fancied him 🤦‍♀️

We were similar ages probably., mid-late 20s, I was a student at St Andrews in the medical department. Arrogant creature!

Just an update. Another lot sof bloods this morning and took my 1st dose of 3x5mg prednisone and I dont want to talk to soon but within 2hrs the pain and stiffness had almost gone. I could walk upstairs without pulling myself up on banister, I could even lift my arms enough to wash my own hair without pain and sat on the floor to wrap presents and got up without so much as a twinge of pain. So it only been 12hrs or so but for now so far so good. I am going to have a problem with taking them with food, I'm not a breakfast person and got to be up a good 4 hrs beforei can eat anything. I could probably manage a dry biscut but that about it. Any suggestions gratefully received. I hope yr staying safe hopefully 2021 will turn out to be better yr so for now merry xmas and happy new year from south wales xx

A glass of milk or a couple of spoons of yoghurt is enough for many - or you may turn out to be one of the lucky ones like me for whom the effect lasts a full 24 hours and then it is less important at what time you take it. A dry biscuit is said not to be enough ...
