Acne/Spots

As well as being 'Chopsy" I can now be called Spotty Muldoon 😞 as I appear to have Acne spreading over one side of my chin and going underneath. Ive become a bit self conscious about it, have suffered with Rosacea for a long time but that seems to be behaving itself lately. Can I blame Pred for this or am I becoming a recycled teenager?

Anybody else had this and able to offer some advice please or is it just something else that I have to accept as the price of being well?

I think pred can cause a form of acne. Not something I've experienced though.

I have had to strip down everything for my super sensitive skin - no scent, no soap, everything as simple as possible. Our own susceptibility adds to this, but I have eventually managed the clearest skin I have ever had. I have read about a connection with acne, I used to have Rosacea on my cheeks, I think you can combat it.

The Pred and higher sugars will favour bacteria residing on your skin which could make you more prone to eruptions. There can also be hormone changes due to Pred and I certainly went through an acne phase on higher doses. Use of perfumed products, harsh cleansers and antibacterial cleansers can also upset the natural balance of skin flora and lead to overgrowth of the wrong ones.

Maybe it’s Maskne - acne from wearing a mask. My daughter has it.

Yes, I get it on one cheek. I have always had a very dry skin and never had acne in my life. I think it is Pred hormonal ( I am 78 years old!!!) plus the huge boobs. Anyway, I now change my pillowcase every couple of days and it improves when I do that.

Yes I have had a charming facial outbreak lately ..bizarre, as I have always had very clear skin..never even had outbreaks as a teen..so it has to be the prednisone..also noticing my skin is very very dry and rough on arms and legs..have been using BioGel oil and all different kinds of moisturizers ..still no relief...I was recently dx with SID..was on metformin for about a month before discontinuing due to major GI upset..so perhaps its a combination of all the above plus stress that causes the outbreaks..I just keep telling myself this too shall pass..take care everyone..stay safe..Knitwit 2020

Try Doublebase Gel for the dry skin on arms and legs, use it at least twice a day and be generous with it. You can get it on prescription.

It may be a side effect of the steroids. A friend experienced the same when on steroids for a while last year. Hers did clear up naturally. 🌸

Thanks everyone. I hadn't thought about the mask causing it but suspect this might be the case as I wore one longer than usual when visiting the hospital this week. Will also try changing my pillowcase every couple of days and see if that helps. Doesn't seem quite so angry today maybe because I put sudocrem on it.
