Has anyone heard of Allopurinol causing gastritis?

Morning all, tiddling down here, Many years ago I was diagnosed with Gout, think it was a very marginal call, and I was prescribed allopurinol. I took it for many years with no side effects at all. Only stopped when doc decided I didn't have Gout any more. Peter

I've been taking Allopurinol for nearly 30 years - now just a quarter tablet - and have had no side effects at all. Still get the occasional bit of gout from time to time, but very mild.

I haven’t Constance but if it’s safe to do so try stopping it and see if you improve. We’re all different when it comes to meds.

Doesn't seem to affect him indoors - and usually if there is a side effect he'll have it! He grinds the tablet and mixes it in a drink as he can't manage to swallow it.

Thanks for the replies. I know it is not listed as a common side effect so just wondering. It has stopped any gout attacks so works well but have been struggling with gastritis so trying to find possible causes. GP didn't think it was a cause but wasn't sure. Tested negative x 2 for Heliobacter Pylori and have cut all alcohol/coffee and eat healthily. Endoscopy tests all fine but showed gastritis.Lanzoprazole helps and it seemed to go but then came back. It is just debilitating and want to solve it.
