I know this question has been asked before and I remember saying at the time I am appalled at the famous bods who do these sorts of adverts persuading pensioners to part with what money they have for products that may not be of any use to them at all - from health products to finance!

You must not use one if you have a pacemaker of any sort and they probably aren't a good idea if you have metalwork anywhere - hips, knees, whatever.

Needless to say I can't find the articles I found then that influenced my opinion!!!

Thank you for your reply . I dont have any other medical problems , this is enough atm 😊 . feeling mighty stiff in the morning and groin pain , wondering if that machine would loosen me up 🤔

Even if you have got any known medical issues, you should still check with your doctor before you try machine.

Have you considered upping your dose slightly to see if that helps - it might just be as simple as that! And no outlay for machine.

And the pred is paid for by the NHS!!!!

Yes - even if you had to pay, you can get a LOT of Pred for the price of a machine!😊

The thing that concerns me is that the stiffness of PMR is due to inflammation in the blood vessels not because the muscle needs to work more. I looked at it and it seems like it is achieving the same as pumping the calf muscles that you can do in a chair or in bed for free. This is known to help venous return. I may be wrong but it seems that the electrical impulse is there to cause involuntary contraction rather than voluntary contraction you do yourself. My worry is that you could easily over do it given that with PMR and Pred make the muscles prone to injury. Perhaps your pain is due to not enough Pred or you’ve over done it.

Have you tried a simple stretching routine before you get out of bed, and as you start your day? I find that if I do just a dozen different moves things are much better.

When you wake up take your tablets, with a cuppa and something to eat - go back to bed and relax or go to sleep for at least an hour, this gives the Pred time to get working, then a warm (not hot) shower and your breakfast and see if that makes a difference.

This routine has worked well for me too until recently have been under a lot of stress with level 4 Covid 19 lockdown , major dental work and cardiac investigations I think these may have instigated start of a flare . Have upped my Pred from 5.5 to 6.5 3 days ago, my stiffness and aching arm and leg muscles much improved not 100% but then I have never been free of stiffness and aching muscles but life is doable again.

Except that having a shower might exhaust her!!! I find it the most exhausting thing I do - really!😩

Constance, many moons ago I snapped a tendon and was six months with no foot to floor and 8 months before I could walk again, I put in a wet room all those years ago as I could not get in or out of a bath. I had a long type of waterproof covering like a long long sock up to knee length to keep plaster dry.

The hospital occupational person came out as they had to raise the bed etc and also advised me not to have an integral shower seat. So a waterproof chair with arms. GCA came along just after 3 months out of plaster so ...............bliss. 🚿

That is so 😦.

How about a stiff drink or two of your favourite 🥃 🥂 🍷 🍾 🍸🍹 tipple before you enter 🚿 ⁉️ ⁉️ ⁉️ 😉 😉 xx

Hi I bought one for my Mum about 18 months ago when it came with a glove attachment. Within about 6 weeks one thumb had straightened out and she had enough strength to hold a pan with content in one hand which previously needed two hands. In connection with feet and blood circulation Mum has very good experience. It is the only approach that has helped with leg cramp and recently much more painful leg cramp than before. I think we would be in a significantly worse situation without it. Mum has times when she will do the ideal and use it daily for the full 30mns or 20mns or 10mns and other times when she will drop off for a week or longer because things are going well. Would be better if she carried through, but mostly tiredness gets in the way. If you buy it direct from the company website and have a known condition you don't pay VAT and there is a no quibbles 60 or 90 day return policy which gave us the confidence to try it out and then ended up keeping it.
