I doubt it - it isn't very likely to be a factor but someone would have to finance it and that isn't going to be high priority.

Why do you ask Bonnie?

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to SheffieldJane

I asked because I just saw a study that links covid susceptibility to type A and less susceptibility to O.

in reply to yogabonnie

Have you got a link to it? I am having a day when I appear to be interested in everything 🤔😉

Well don't get too excited. The researchers have a clear disclaimer about using the research to shape clinical practice and merely claim more research should be done.

"It should be emphasized, however, that this is an early study with limitations. It would be premature to use this study to guide clinical practice at this time, but it should encourage further investigation of the relationship between the ABO blood group and the COVID-19 susceptibility."

Zhao J, Yang Y, Huang HP, et al. Relationship between the ABO blood group and the COVID-19 susceptibility. Med RxIV. Doi: doi.org/10.1101/2020.03.11.....

I haven't got the foggiest what my blood type is. 🥴

Looks like so many Chinese papers handing a ton of data to students and telling them to punch the data analysis ...

it is so strange to me . My best friend didn't know what hers was either. I thought that was something EVERYONE knew.

Only if you were a blood donor or had cross-matching for some injury/surgery and asked. Most people don't.

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to PMRpro

oh that is probably why I know. I donated blood a few times.

Or when you were pregnant - on the paperwork you carry back and forth for 9 months

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Telian

Um - that is a LONG time ago and I don't remember any paperwork!!!

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to PMRpro

It was your weight card each time you went to clinic with other bits like urine test results, position of baby just a record checking everything was on track.... found mine recently when moving.

I didn't have many - was in hospital at 27+ weeks with pre-eclampsia. Nat was born at 31+ weeks - had an interesting BP the day she was born, 200+/160+, they didn't have the right sphyg on the ward. Dropped to normal like a stone with the epidural and never wavered again. I've always said I was allergic to her!! Still am at times ...

Same with me and number 1 son! Induced at 34 weeks. We are both B neg.

Blimey - hope you two are never in a RTC together! They used to have to call in the reserves for OH when he had cancer and needed transfusions - he's B-ve too. Me? Common as muck, O+ve.

I still carry the blood type card in my wallet they gave me 42 years ago when our first son was born!

In Panama your blood type is on your driver's license which I think is a great idea.

Particularly since that is when you might be likely to need it!!!!

I asked at the surgery a couple of years ago. The nurse taking my blood said she didn't know how to find it. I have had major surgery 20years ago so it must be on my record somewhere!

I had enough blood tests then!

Oh nuts. I am A+ (in blood type only).

Whitner profile image

I'm an A also, A-. But from what I am reading, I think we are in a little better position because we're on prednisone if Covid-19 is indeed a cytokine storm. What I read suggests we take Vitamin C (500 mg), Zinc 75-100 mg and Vit D3 1,000-4,000 U daily. Can't hurt!

Also In JAPAN they dont ask what your sign (horoscope) is... they ask what blood type you are! funny.

My blood group is the most common, is that O POS.? I remember my dad saying it would be handy if I ever needed a transfusion. I am Taurus. Are you something exciting like Aquarius?

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to SheffieldJane

haha. I am a LIBRA. but my husband is a Taurus and I LOVE Taurus people!! No wonder you are the best!! I think you are in luck because most people are O so you can get lots of blood. O neg means you are a universal DONOR. AND maybe if it is true you are less likely to get Covid! so there is something!!

I didn't know until I just looked it up.

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to yogabonnie

I am compatible with Libra. More of them over the years than any other sign.

I am hoping I had mild Covid. I had something.

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to SheffieldJane

is the covid you thought you had part of the headache or was it earlier.? How is your head??How is all that prednisone treating you. feeling crazy.. or just better!!

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to yogabonnie

Cold symptoms. two feverish nights, an very, intermittent, extremely irritating cough and feeling viral. Yes the dull, low level headache was there. My OH felt much the same. I wouldn’t surprised to be told I had it v mildly and early. My Rheumatologist suggested it to the GP. I think a lot of us probably have. I have been on lockdown since 8 March. I was in Bath prior to that. Hopefully didn’t do any damage to anyone. My head doesn’t hurt. I am wide awake at 2.45 am. I had a write off of a day yesterday. Lying on the bed until dinner time.

I had 5 missed calls from Sweden on my mobile. It wasn’t you was it?

😉

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to SheffieldJane

Oh how I wish I were in SWEDEN!! I miss them all. Very pleased that daughter is certain (although not tested) that she and family had covid. she lost sense of smell and taste and had fever and cough which she said felt like nothing ever before..like she had been exposed to some chemical in her lungs... so I am thinking that was it and can worry LESS. The other grandson is living here ..from Alaska.. now for good and is only 3 miles away. I'm still leading a lucky life!

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to yogabonnie

It sounds like it doesn’t it? A blessing in disguise perhaps. Sweden has taken a very different approach, to the Pandemic. I often look to Sweden for wisdom. I envy you your grandson. I could be content with even one, I’m sure. We are lucky in so many ways.

I am O neg, found out when I was pregnant in 1969, hubby was O Pos so had to have a special injection after the birth, and again in 1972, I was told they only give you 2 as it is very expensive, not sure how true that was! My sister and her hubby are both A.

I read a best-selling book years many years ago about diet for your blood type. I was researching it again recently and it seems no one has ever done more research on it, which is curious. It was neither proven nor disproven. I would have thought someone would have picked up the mantle. Usually scientists are quick to counter-argue any assertion like that. If I remember right from my blood donor days in my 20s I'm A +, and the book said I should be a vegetarian which I didn't want to do!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to tangocharlie

Having read a few of the science-based commentators - apparently to a great extent I eat "my" diet! Though I suspect the veg level I eat is higher than they mean ...

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie

those were exactly my sentiments when I read the book and my husband was a big O meat eater... but now... I'd love to be a vegetarian...and rarely eat meat so I should re read and believe. haha. I like any books that are geared to MY thoughts rather than the other way around!

tangocharlie profile image
tangocharlie in reply to yogabonnie

So try being a vegetarian or even vegan for a few months and seeing if it reduces your inflammation? Lockdown is a good time to experiment. I thought about it but from what I've read in books and anecdotally in Facebook groups, the paleo/ancestral/AIP diet with high meat or keto with moderate meat seems best for many people so that's what I'm doing. But then I've had this discussion before on here and someone whose name sadly escapes me right now went vegan, eating a massive amount of kale in particular and had great results. Maybe it is horses for courses, even if not blood types for courses!

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie

I tried the smoothie shred which is vegan and loved it.. but not sure it helped. a Dr. brooke Gardner is the author of it and swears she cured her Lupus. who knows. !! whatever feels best. I think our Beloved Prednisone is the only REAL thing that works consistently. that and the Placebo effect from believing in Keto or vegan or smoothies!
