I think many if us do suffer hair loss. I think PMR started my hair loss which was compounded by pred. It does get better but you may go through different texture changes too. 🌻

Thank you for your reply, always had beautiful curly hair, now it's a disaster, oh well, life changes, good to be able to complain, thinking of so many farmers, food service people, etc., that are suffering.

It may well go back to its original curl and texture. When I was at 6mg for a few months mine returned to the same as before. Then I flared and it's a bit fragile again. A few people have discussed it with their hairdressers and had decent cut to make the style fit. I will keep my fingers crossed. 🤞🌻

My hair has decided to break easily and I have a patch of short hair at the back of my head. Down to the pred in my case I think. YBB

I realised before pmr struck last year that I hadn’t had my hair cut for five months, it didn’t fall out for which I am grateful, but never grew. Also pre -pmr diagnosis in December 2019, had sensitive teeth whilst eating . Now on pred and reducing, 20 down to 13.5 thanks to Dorset Lady’s taper plan, it has not grown much. I only wash it twice a week.

Mine fell out with PMR - not the pred. It changed and required a different cut. On Medrol it turned into a brillo pad and stopped growing!! The shorter hair at the nape of my neck is still frizzy - probably made worse by night sweats but otherwise, well cut it is back to normal since switching to prednisone. It takes the best part of a year for any effect due to illness to improve.

The back of my head looks like kids hair that hasn't been brushed for ages even though it is tat free and soft!!

You’re describing exactly what happened to my hair.

Perversely the hair on my head came out in handfuls but the beard grew strongly! (I am female!!) I have quite thick hair which is approaching the look of a busby. It doesn't want to grow longer - just thicker. Wouldn't mind it coming out in handfuls now. The texture has definitely changed. A good hair cut is the key. When is a bigger question.

I forgot to mention my 70s style almost jet black Elvis style side boards. And yes female. There is just downy hair now.

Medrol gave me a major black beard - all round, not just sideburns like Poops! Which I didn't get - I've been white (proper whilte, not grey) since I was 40!

Absolutely. In 10 months of Pred and PMR I have lost half of my lovely head of hair. It fell out all over in long strands from the roots but not in clumps.

It is still falling out , but not as much now thank heavens. I take Viviscal suppliment and a host of other multi vitamins and minerals, and cod liver oil. I also wash it twice a week in Nizoral shampoo which is supposed to be good for male balding—— which apparently inflammation causes for us women 😢😢😢

Hope those tips help you. Every good wish ! xxx

If it's any consolation, I all but lost my eyebrows - (which I always thought was my better feature!! they are growing back - reluctantly. Vanity! Vanity!

Oh yes, my hair was fine enough as it was but now it is like cotton wool and very fine indeed. I've had to now get it cut short as it had no "guts' in it. I hate the short hair as it makes my previously slim but now puffed up face and new added appearance of no neck look like a big ball. Ahhh yes it's the gift that just keeps on giving.

Yes, I've been losing my hair on pred for a few months now, it used to make me cry at one time every time I washed it because so much came out, it would be all over the house, in our dinner at times and my cat even had one hanging out of her mouth, it must have been I'm her food when I fed her. I'm now on 9mg of pred, down from 40 originally, it seems to have slowed down a bit though it does still come out but not so scarily. I've been taking viviscal suppliments, biotin and folic acid, alternating between viviscal, plantur 39 and kevi n Murphy shampoo and conditioner. My hair i s definitely a lot dryer, I've described it before as having a worzel gummage look, it's not helping that because of the lockdown i havnt been to the hairdressers for weeks and my normally blond hair is now a quarter grey, I have to wear it up all the time now as it looks so bad. My hairdresser recommended i start taking Absolute Collagen, she has been taking it for 3 months and said her hair has started growing back in a small bald patch she had, so I started taking it, it's quite expensive but it's worth it if it works, I've been on it now for almost 2 months, havn't really noticed much difference in my hair but my nails that normally break when they get a certain length are now really long and strong, my skin has also improved, so I'm hopeful I will start to see some improvement with my hair soon, they recommend taking it for at least 3 months before you notice it working so fingers crossed, hope this helps x
