It would help if we knew what dose you were on, and for how long. Are you taking pred for PMR or GCA?

Hi Thanks for the response. I was lower but now back up to 9mg...PMR for 18 months.

I wouldn't say I really had "trembles" but I have noticed when I write I have less fine motor control. Seem to be okay with some things, like a needle doing tapestry, but not others, like drawing fine detail. Thought it was age. :(

There is of form. Of nonparkinson shakes. A nurse who worked on geriatrics said its quite common.

OH has had essential tremor for years.

in reply toPMRpro

I seem to have calmed now but I bet it can be a concern if it persists.

It is getting worse at times - sometimes can barely hold a glass without spilling it...

in reply toPMRpro

Oh dear. My friends OH ended up with a lid and straw to drink his gin and tonic. I found a nice one with a handle and a lid with a large enough hole for a straw. He loved not spilling his drink.

Not that bad yet at home at least - but I do prefer him to tuse a shorter broader heavy glass than a more usual G&T shape ...

in reply toPMRpro

I think that's what my friends OH had for a few years. A lumpy heavy glass so he used the ridges rather than a smooth surface.

I can't carry glasses any more. I smashed every single one since I got porcelain tiles in the kitchen. Most drinks are in cups with good handles and soup etc in a sistema soup or noodle bowl. Smashed at least 60%of my crockery too. Plain white so replace as needed from same shop.

My father had "familial tremor".

in reply toHeronNS

Is that a Dx or just that essential tremor runs in the family?

I have never heard of essential tremor. Whatever it is it runs in families. I have no sign of it. My father always had it as long as I knew him. He died when he was about seven or eight years younger than I am now.

Fortunately I don't have shakes. Yet.

Hi... At higher doses I used to get my morning trembies. I thought it was the mixture of meds I was on and some days it was quiet bad and I didn't feel good. I just stayed on bed on a morning until it stopped.

So they got better as your pred dose reduced?

It is possible for various reasons , but , because it is also possible to get tremors for non PMR or Steroid related causes , and these are just as possible for you to have at the same time as PMR any regular tremors should be reported to and examined by your GP. It's especially important to have a check up if they are affecting your daily activities or involve muscle weakness or coordination / eating issues . It's best to rule out other health causes even if it can be a common side effect with an illness like PMR because you don't want to overlook early warning symptoms of other conditions.

Caught early things like tremors or conditions of various sorts can be controlled easily with the right self care .

Me. And I drool ever so slightly.
