So confused....

Ok so I am still on 10 mgs. Which I plan to stay for awhile. I awake each morning with shoulder and leg pains. After my prednisone kicks in I am finally able to move.

My confusion comes when I take ibuprofen and get some relief. So can Pmr go into remission prior to getting down to zero prednisone?

Oh today I am going out to look at an automatic car. I have a manual and with bad left knee and sore right shoulder it is not fun to drive. My sister and her husband are buying it for me. It will be used...

I used to get a bit of relief with ibuprofen - just nothing like the overall result with pred.

Have fun car shopping - OH is talking up a new car again ...

We change ours evey couple of years and it drives me mad as we have to go to nearly every dealer before he goes back to the first few. I get my own back by then disliking the short list!! It nearly causes a divorce!!

Like my recent bad habit of moving.... my habit with cars is buy high sell low..... I have had my name on the title of 55 plus cars. I used to blame my x for it but since I have been on my own I have had at least 5 cars....

I bought the 2004 Cadillac Deville. You can tell it was a one owner car...

I checked it all out online did my research on being a reliable car or not went in he had the paperwork done quick and I was out the door in about 1 hour. No high pressure and included the registration into my out the door price. Nicest car experience ever.

Most of our time was talking about his wife 39 has autoimmune something but they don’t know what it is. That was sad as she is so young. She has never drank but her liver is bad n possible cirrhosis.

One of the saddest deaths while nursing was a young mom with cirrhosis..once she started to bleed it was fast..... beautiful family you just don’t know.....

My dads aunt died of the same thing despite being tee total all her life!!!

The car thing is definitely him but i like the new car but it just takes sooo long for him to decide. He started looking last march and didnt order it until june but delayed its delivery till the new reg came out in september!!xx

I hate the eternal shopping. My x would drag me around let’s say for a tv. After 7 or more stores I lost it. We were in the parking lot and I yelled Pick One..... he ended up buying the first one we saw... crazy

I know!! Thats why he does my head in. We must visit about a dozen different dealerships before we end up back at the beginning!! Aaahhh!! Plus in over 16 years we have only ever had 4 different makes of car so he keeps going back to the same ones!!

in reply to Yellowbluebell

I must say the motability website is useful just for doing online assessment. The site tells you all details then I look for independent reviews. The last time I changed my car I almost did my head in. Wanting a hybrid that wasn't a small car i was left with one choice for auto gearbox and good handling.

His highness did all that before he even set out to the dealers!! Worst bit is on e the car is ordered and nearly due he goes past the dealership regularly to see if its arrived!! Only once has he ever seen it delivered. This time the garage was 20 miles away so i banned him from doing detours!!

I choose my husbands cars!! He hates shopping, let alone researching a car. I love trying the models out, then dealing with an offer. He comes at the last minute, test drives it and says OK, that's fine. Out with cq book and sorted. He's definitely no wimp, just not car interested.. Unusual for a bloke. 🤣

Oh no - it has to be right because we then drive it until it dies!!! Currently 12 years I think ... Still fine but he wants a LHD for getting into carparks with barriers - complicated with a UK car ...

This is our second VW Passat - the first was the last of its generation, the second was the last of its generation and there had been at least one inbetween. Here where we live there a LOADS of the generation 2 before our first! They must be the best part of 30 years old! We'd really like a bit smaller car but it must be big enough to carry OH's new folding mobility scooter as well as everything else. We've always had biggish/practical vehicles and I have loved both the Passats despite naughty VW ...

Glad to hear OH now has a mobility scooter. You can both extend your outings together - great in the mountains.

I had 4 Golfs when I worked and loved them. Passed the blue one onto OH and he used it till it was 20 years old! In Brazil I had a VW Beetle when 24 with 1st OH. Everyone had them. Love VWs but pricy.

But they last forever - the current one is still on its original exhaust!

We have only had four new cars 11 to 16 years each. Present one (Honda) almost 13 years.

My husband is not an 'expensive' man, but cars in our life are!! He insists on changing them every 3 years (we've been married for nearly 63 years). Work it out!😂😂

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Constance13

OH used to - claimed it meant you spent less. Each time possibly but overall you are far better saving the difference you would have to pay each 3 years. And the thought of buying a new car makes me feel ill: you lose well in excess of £3K in value the minute it is registered ... My argumentwins out now because I point out the energy required to make that new car ...

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

My husband's attitude too ((you pay less). Like hell you do! As you say - you loose approx £3k as soon as you leave the car park. Then the devalue every year☹️

However, I've cured him now!😂 We've has the last car 7 years now. We got totally 'stuck' one year (deep snow) and I insisted on an SUV four wheel drive. I also needed it for rollator, etc.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Constance13

I thought that - until the local garage here said no, even the registration takes value off!! We have only once had a new car - to move to Germany! All the rest have been demos or proper 2nd hand company cars.

I am 2 years into this car which is a 3 year keeper. I have already decided on my next car. I want a self charging hybrid and suspect it will take 6 months to delivery so I want to try and do everything ASAP. All online in reviews and asking people with that car in car parks.

in reply to

For a company car I was given. 2009 Prius to drive. I thought it looked funny but it was awesome to drive. The heavy battery is on the lower part of car and driving on winding county roads was a pure joy. I always drove fast in my old life.... it self charged and I put hours of driving on it n never remember having to use gas backup. With the back seat down I had tons of brochures ladder and dry clothes etc. it held a lot...it was long enough I could have lied down n napped.

I lied down this afternoon and fell almost immediately asleep and when I woke up was startled thought it was the middle o the night. I love my darkening drapes. As usual on 10 mgs I still hurt but afternoons it eases up.

Oops I just remembered I did put gas in that Prius about once a month. I was outside sales and drove pretty far.

Interesting - we want a plug-in hybrid, and whatever else our roads are not, they are winding!!!!

in reply to PMRpro

The one I am looking at is self charging and all electric round town and petrol on longer journeys. If I had a plug in the cable might be stolen here or someone would sue for tripping up over it! 90% of my driving is across town and under 30miles so would be all electric for that.

in reply to PMRpro

I knew a guy with all electric.....he couldn’t turn on the heat because he would run out of juice before getting to work....then plug in n worry all the way home. The worry finally got to him. He said it would be great around town but not an hour down the road

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to

Exactly - has to be a hybrid!

in reply to PMRpro

I have been waiting for self charging hybrids to be available ever since they brought them into formula 1.

If you are getting some relief from Ibruprofen ( although Paracetamol is better combined with steroids to protect your stomach ) this is likely to mean that part of the pain you are experiencing at the moment may not be PMR but other Muscle / Nerve Pain.

You can get other pain at the same time as PMR . At doses over 10 mg that pain is masked to some extent . As you get lower other Pain can become more noticeable .

If you have a bad knee and shoulder apart from suffering from PMR have you had it checked at your GP?

They may be able to prescribe a more suitable pain relief to help alongside Steroids. If you get other Pain under control it makes your PMR easier to control too , which helps you cope with Tapering and can help reduce Flares in any of your Health Conditions.

Driving your Manual Car is probably triggering pain as you suspect .

in reply to Blearyeyed

That is what I am thinking. Is paracetamol Tylenol? I am not familiar with that name.

I do have GERD but it has not been active for awhile now. I take a med for it am n pm.

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to

Yes, Tylenol is Paracetamol .

Have you had any x-rays or checks recently for other Muscle , nerve or joint issues that may be adding to the pain?

in reply to Blearyeyed

My doctor said we could do some exray but the last ones didn’t show anything so I figure to wait a bit more. I think I am due for another dexascan

I have fallen a few times...once dislocated my shoulder which was feeling almost healed then I fell again hurting my shoulder and my whole left leg. We know I have a minicus tear which she gave me excercises which I have not done. You have to lie on floor. I can get down easy it is the getting up...

so yes my doc has checked me out.

in reply to

Try doing the exercises on the bed. It's not perfect but you can get up easier. Falling isn't pleasant. I have broken ribs, torn my bicep and bruised my backside loads of times slip falling down the stairs. It has improved since I get neuropathy sorted. Sorry jumped in!

in reply to

I went to the pool for the 1st time yesterday. I was able to do all kinds of knee exercise. I spent 1 hr and today am really sore especially my right shoulder. I will have to go a bit easier. In the water I don’t feel I am overdoing. I will go about 3 times a week. Have a rest day in between n maybe start at 30 minutes n work my way up.

in reply to

Brilliant. It is so easy to overdo it but hopefully rest days will allow you to recover. 👍

Have you tried splitting your dose or just taking a few at 230 am or so. I wake up pain free now. I was losing 2 to 3 hours every morning waiting for meds to kick in.

in reply to bunnymom

I would not be able to keep it at the same time every night. I don’t mind waiting for it to kick in. Right now I have my coffee n kitty on my lap. Can’t get much better.
