Pain behind eye
Hi there Constance
Unfortunately I have the same problem, and two days ago I was diagnosed with mature cataracts on both of my eyes. Also my eyes are very dry which is also contributing to the uncomfortable feeling.
Better go to your eye doctor and see what they say.
Cortisone is contributing to eye problems.
Feel well soon.

I also get the sharp pain through my eye, it feels like something sharp going straight through and then I get a terrible pain behind it. I also still have the low grade pain in my temple, personally I don’t think that my dose is high enough of Pred and am waiting for a referral to a Rheumatologist
If it’s new get it checked very soon to make sure that there isn’t something like eye pressure getting too high.

If it were me I'd at least call your GP and ask for advice - being as it is Friday and all!!!
???????
I don't think I want to know about this!!!!
Oddly , it is a type of headache , called an Occular Migraine.
Did you take Paracetamol and did it improve? Paracetamol or Migraine Medication does help these Eye Headaches or Eye Neuralgia.
As your specialist said if you have a Macular Crease or any other Eye Conditions these stabbing Eye Headaches can happen. They are made worse if you also suffer from Dry Eyes because your eyes are also being rubbed and get more inflamed.
Did they give you medicated eye drops or just ones that help lubricate your eyes?
Drinking more and getting a night time gel like Gel years or Vitapos A reduce these symptoms by helping any inflammation .
Magnesium helps Eye Headaches just like it does with Migraine Headaches.
Try using a warm compresses on the eyes a few times a day , especially after being out of if you have been using the eyes intently for a few hours.
Good luck with your appointment x
Mine was diagnosed as a sinus infection. I am half way through a two week course of Amoxicillin. No more shooting pains, behind the eye.
I don’t want to scare you but I’ve just been diagnosed with PMR and was told to watch out for any sharp pain in the temple or jaw in case of GCA? Please check with doctor and mention this: it’s not always diagnosed. Good luck x
Think we need to be careful on advice on this topic. Eye pain both stabbing and chronic can have a range of causes from the benign to more serious and the only person who can make an informed diagnosis with his/her knowledge and specialist tools is the ophthalmologist. As you say you are an old hand at GCA, will know the signs of something more serious and take appropriate action. Hoping you get some relief soon as it’s hard to ignore ‘stabbing’ pains wherever they are.
