Has this only started since the weather got colder ( or hotter)?
Does it feel similar to after eating food with too much salt the night before like your fingers are swollen, but they visually aren’t.
Added to that sensation, does it feel like your hands have gone to sleep “pins & needles” sensation. But unlike the “restricted circulation” issue, you don’t get the cool tingling sensation when you flex them and they immediately loosen up?
Can you partially close your hand(s) in fists without pain, just stiffness, and as you continue to “exercise” them eventually you have full control and while you are “exercising” them it feels like you are squishing something out?
If yes to the above then most likely it is associated to a PMR flare. I had the same happen to me but it included only my left arm and left hand (no I hadn’t slept on it; I had the sensation 3 days in a row and sleeping in a different position).
You probably should touch base with your Rheumy. Mine suggested splitting my dose in half and taking one half when I woke up and the other just before going to bed. Solved my problem.
I had my issue while tapering (for a second time after a relapse) from 16mg/d to 14 mg (I was started 80mg/d 6 mos ago so taking me awhile longer to get down I’m now tapering from 14 to 12.
So, if it happened to me at that dosage it definitely could at your lower dose.
No not common. I had taking this for 4 years and it never did this. Go to your doctor.
The only time I have experienced pins and needles is when I had a trapped nerve in my neck. As PMR suggests you should see Doctor about it
