"Toni Bernhard got sick and, to her and her partner's bewilderment, stayed that way. As they faced the confusion, frustration, and despair of a life with sudden limitations, a life that was vastly different from the one they'd thought they'd have together, Toni had to learn how to be sick. In spite of her many physical and energetic restrictions (and sometimes, because of them), Toni learned how to live a life of equanimity, compassion, and joy.

Wow....looks to be very inspiring. So often we focus primarily on the “illness/symptoms”, instead of the ripple effect of chronic illness on our mental health, our relationships, our intimacy, and our spirituality. If we can adapt and heal it has positive impact on our abilities and resilience.
This is a “must read” for me.
Thank you once again for making us aware of such wonderful resources....and reading is one activity most of us can do!
Another great and inspiring suggestion. We need some examples, role models, to help us cope with any chronic illness. Thank you again. Please write a review when you have read it.
Hi, I haven't reviewed this one yet... I just received it yesterday! I think Jane was referencing the overview I wrote about "Brave New Medicine: A Doctor’s Unconventional Path to Healing Her Autoimmune Illness" a few days ago.
Yes you're right she could be. There are an awful lot of books offering advice on coping with illness, I find that most have something useful to offer but I've yet to find one I could stick to myself.
