Thank you everyone for your experiences and good wishes. I feel more reassured now. Still terrified, but yes looking forward to being able to go up and down stairs again.

It is always worrying beforehand as it is the unknown. Afterwards you will be amazed that your were worried about it.

The most important factor in your recovery is doing your physical therapy religiously, gaining strength and stamina while stopping short of setting yourself back.

My mom had knee replacement surgery in April, at 6am, and was in the gym before 3pm that day starting her therapy. She walked across the beach and was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean surf by July 4th. Later that year she "went for a walk" in the Grand Canyon.

I know it can be hard not to worry, but when you catch yourself doing it, tell yourself it's a useless waste of energy. Instead, plan the things you're going to do that you've had to forego. That's going to get you excited.
