Hi, l have now been put back on 20mg, l was off it for 5 weeks but pain came back, been back on it for 4 days, first side effects rearing their ugly heads, headaches across eyes feels like a sinus infection. I am going to keep a record this time of side effects.

Hi

What’s the plan after the original dose?

Keep notes of side effects and anything else that’s relevant.

Hope you feel better in yourself- that’s the main thing. It’s disappointing to have to go back on Pred, but if it’s needed, it’s needed.

Good luck.

3 weeks at 20mg dropping to 15mg

Ok,

Hope that works for you, but just make sure that following the drop to 15mg things are still okay.

If they aren’t after about a week on new dose (bearing in mind the first couple of days may be steroid withdrawal issues) - then maybe consider a step back up to 17.5mg - hopefully you won’t need to, but listen to your body.

Good luck.

You might think about splitting your dose.

If I remember correctly, you were diagnosed with PMR about 10 months ago, then later on suspected GCA, which was discounted because the biopsy was negative?

Forgive me asking but did you stop pred completely for four weeks and if so what dose where you on when you stopped it.

I am a bit confused, but that could just be me. I would be grateful if you could put me straight.

I got down to 5mg, rheumatologist did bloods and they were normal, so she said l could come of prednisilone, l was then off them for 5 weeks, she also started me on naproxen but after about two weeks pain started to come back, l could manage it, then all the pain started to return, by the five weeks l could hardly move. Rheumatologist brought me down quite quickly off the prednisilone the first time, but she always went for the bloods and mine kept coming back slightly raised or normal. I think now it was a too quick taper

Yes I unfortunately much too quick.

I used to get a dreadful bursting sensation in my eyes - brought on by reading and screens. I simply had to stop. It was a really horrible side effect that has thankfully stopped. I was only given dry eye drops and eyechecks showed nothing. Poor you. May it pass quickly!
