Thanks for this.

Yes it is- with some very good points - but still a bit optimistic in the treatment/time it lasts -

“Most people who develop polymyalgia rheumatica are initially treated with corticosteroids — usually prednisone starting at moderate doses of around 15 or 20 mg per day — and then slowly tapered over several months,”

Your doctor should find the lowest dose of the medication to manage your symptoms and most patients can stop taking corticosteroids after one to three years, depending on the severity of your symptoms.

Interesting rubbish in there too!!!! 100 years of management? Pred wasn't invented that long ago, Exclusively in over 50s? Hum. If it isn't "seen" in under 50s it is because the doctors have it fixed in their head it isn't. And there is surely a preponderance of people in their 60s here? "Tapered over several months" "off in 1-3 years" - whatever ...

And severity of symptoms has next to nothing to do with it. I was never bed-bound at any time in the 5 years, others who were have been off pred in 4-5 years and away living life after pred.

Yes a very good summary until the suggestion that this condition lasts from one to three years. I don't think that this is the consensus of this forum. 5.7 years was the last figure being banded about.

5.9 is the figure established in a study by a world name in PMR/GCA at the Mayo as being the median duration of pred management. Sadly, he's ridden off into the sunset (literally as it happens!) of retirement ...

I've been on Pred since August 2012 and had mild PMR symptoms for several years before that. Still can't do without the Pred have flares every time time I get down below 5 mg. so a lot of that summary is not about me.
