What is PMR called in younger people?

I remember reading recently on this forum about a condition identical to PMR or GCA that occurs in people younger than 50.

In fact, some people with this condition say their medical charts were modified to say PMR/GCA after they turned 50.

Anyone remember the name of this disease? Thanks!

(Search function didn’t turn it up without the name.)

Yes that what they were discussing .

TA very similar in symptoms and origins to GCA and the go to option for the under 50's .

Try using goole to search - the search function here is poor - "GCA in under 50s" on google brings up entires for Takayasu's arteritis.

Why is it the under 50's get to have their issues tagged with such cool names?

Remembering what they used called PMR in comparison , I think it's about time the over 50's diseases started to get more exciting names!😋😁😂😂😂

I did try googling, but was mistaking it as a younger version of PMR (not GCA), so nothing came up. My bad.

Always use PMR and GCA - they are the same underlying problem, just the symptoms make it appear as if they are different. So if you use both you'll get more references but most talk about both.

Are you thinking of fibromyalgia, the symptoms are very similar, though it's not the same illness, it is prevalent in people under 50.

No, it was Takayasu arteritis.

Thanks.

Like your mom- I am 81 yr. old. HAVE BEEN ON pRED. FOR A YEAR FOR pmr also HAVE AVASCULOR NECROSIS. I know now that I had this for at least 30 years. About 4 times a yr. I would get flu typ illness and it put me to bed for 2 or 3 days. I mean sick! My mom was in pain all the time and the Dr. just said she was faking to get drugs. That poor lady. We had never heard of this.

Did your mom ever get over this? It sure scares me.

My Mom had trouble reducing prednisone, complaining of “leg weakness”, so they kept increasing her dose. She did ski once after her hip replacement, but was too afraid of falling to keep it up. She lived to 92.
