Hi. Has anyone suffered from itching and rash when tapering down prednisolone. I have developed this mad itch and red rash since going from having a burst of 30mgs prednisolone and going back down to 3 mgs

I certainly do have intense itching at night on 4 mgs, but I put it down to Tramadol, that I have resorted to of late. No visible rash though.

Hi Caradomben

There are a lot Posts on 'Related Posts' you could have a look at until you get replies which will probably be in the morning.

Kind Regards

Yes me too. Bad intermittent itch on inside of left knee. No rash. Crazy!

I find Aveeno cream helps. x

Yeah mine on inside of arm and chest. No real rash . Think it’s red from itching it 😖

I use Aveeno baby wash in the bath or shower and their adult moisturiser. My problem has diminished a lot as I've reduced pred, so I'm only occasionally itchy. At its worst the terrible itching in my legs especially behind my knees was agonising and kept me awake for ages at night . The Aveeno products didn't get rid of it completely, but they did take the sting out of it and the itching was much milder afterwards. I never had a rash though.

Why did you have the burst of 30mg?

Hi for a chest infection .30mgs and amoyycillin . Infection cleared . Now trying to taper down again. Was on 1 mg before infection .

Don't be in a hurry until you have recovered from the infection properly. Are you sure it isn't leftovers of the amoxicillin? When did it start?

medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

It usually happens while on the amoxicillin but the high dose pred would probably have subdued it.

PS - it isn't usually a true allergy

Thank you for the reply . The article was interesting. I never thought about the antibiotic. I finished it on Sunday so hopefully the itch will get better soon .

I am the same especially when in bed is worse could it be the meds. It is driving me mad. What is your advice.

Mine is soothed by ordinary base cream, as is my burning feet, that lie in wait for me in bed only.

I’ve been using medicated body powder. Cools it down .

I never had problems with Prednisolone. I had times when I'd be taking 40mgs of pred for a week or more due to chest infections. About three years after stopping Pred, getting down to 1mg every 7 days, I was in hospital having my appendix out. I have permanent Atrial Fibrillation and during the operation my heart rate went over 190 beats per minute. A well-meaning doctor prescribed me Bisoprolol which was fine for 7 weeks, until the itching started. I've been taken off the beta blocker, but it did its work and two years later I still have urticaria. Anti-histamines sometimes work and sometimes they don't. So the question is: Are you taking a beta blocker?

Hi I also have atrial fibrillation and take bisoprolol and flecainide. I also take allopurinol for gout . I suppose it could b any of the medications

The NHS says "You may experience a skin rash if you take penicillin and allopurinol, which is used to treat gout."

I took Flecainide for 12 years without any side effects. Itching is a known side effect of Bisoprolol. It is called "very rare" that is between 1 and 9 people in very 10,000 who take Bisoprolol will get itching, but given the high prescripition rate of beta blockers it's not all that rare.
