Tapering

Hi l took your advice on going back to 25mgs pred from 20mgs nearly 2 weeks ago hoping it would help me feel better but so l seem to be feeling worse. Still getting bleary eyes and huge head sweating. Today l have gone 27.5. To see if that will help. I am seeing my doctor on Thursday and my reumy in 2 weeks time. Any ideas why.? I sometimes wonder if l am allergic to presnosone as it doesn't give me better feelings most people have.

Look forward to your advice.

You certainly seem to have had a chequered history to date, don’t know what to suggest other than you need to discuss urgently with your medical team.

Has your pred dose EVER given you notable relief from the symptoms? On what grounds was the GCA diagnosis made?

The diagnosis was given as l had a very sore artery by my left temple and pain in the back of my head. Also my Father had same thing many years ago. The pains went as soon as l started taking the presnosone but the after effects of the presnosone have been with me ever since. Contant sweating bleary eyes fatigue moon face and weight gain etc. I seemed a little better over the summer and got down to 17.5 mgs then it came back worse again. To the point where l don't know if going to a higher dose is helpful or not. I will discuss this with my doctor on Thursday. I really appreciate your input.

Forgot. I had very high "zed rates" at the time of diagnosis which went down once on pred. I have blood tests every month for my reumy and they seem to be ok now.

Me again. Can l really have bad reactions to pred and what can be done about it.?

Some people do have bad reactions to pred and the only real "cure" is to reduce the pred dose. It depends what they are of course - many can be managed fairly well or avoided when you know how. If you post about your particular problems people will make suggestions that have helped them.

For example, weight gain and steroid-induced diabetes can be improved a lot by cutting carbs in your diet drastically. Not using soap products and moisturising a lot can help skin problems - protective products can be bought to guard shins and arms if it is that bad. But without knowing what exactly - it is difficult to advise you.

Thank you so much for your input. I will explain all this to my doctor and see what she says. I see rheumatologist in 2 weeks but they are always so busy I always seemed rushed. So glad of your help!
