Gout
I know of a couple of people told they had gout - but not on this forum I'm afraid.
However - if you have symptoms of gout, don't just accept a diagnosis without testing. There is psuedogout and also too high calcium levels can lead to similar symptoms.
Thankyou pmrpro, only my rheumatologist looked at my foot and just said it's gout. And because I am on steroids that treats it, well that was seven months ago, I now have a hard job to walk and hardly get any shoes on my foot. I work a 9hr shift 5 days a week, which is standing all of that time. When I leave work I can just about walk as the pain is bad and foot swollen Wright up.
Well that's not right. My mum and brother gets meds specifically for gout. I think you need to seek medical advice when it's so bad. You can't go on.with that pain.
Thankyou pmrpro & poopadoop, I will be going to the doctors and this time demand they check it out. Like a lot of you on this forum, I don't have a lot of faith in my rheumatologist. I am so thankful for all of you on this forum, who reassure me about things I need to know about pmr.
When I first contracted pmr in 2016, my left foot was so swollen and painful I could scream. Well, every time I stepped on it, I think I did scream a little. At first, foot doc thought it was gout but turned out it was costochondritis in my foot. For one month I had to sit with it elevated and icing every hour on the hour, plus wear a big pad around my foot. Although it’s ok now, my foot is misshapen. Somewhere along the lines of pmr I read that costochondritis of the foot can be an early symptom of pmr because it can cause inflammation of the tendons. Made sense to me. Maybe you can get your foot checked for this condition. Best wishes.
Thankyou very much for that twopies, I will mention that to my doctor. What you described is very much like I have.
I have suffered from gout for many years before my pmr. Usually the pain from gout is unmistakeable - rapid onset, affecting joints which go red and fell hot. Y
ou should get a proper diagnosis. Allopurinol is very safe and very effective medication for preventing gout attacks.
Thankyou very much cycleman, as I said the rheumatologist looked at my foot and just said you have gout. That was 7months ago. My foot was never red and doesn't feel hot. The pain is in my big toe, top of my foot and ankle. The pain is agony and I can't stand anything touching it. I can't walk far and after wearing shoes my foot swells Wright up.
my foot does turn red. I have been " diagnosed" with Plantar fashiatis, gout, PMR and now Arthritis--all for the same symptoms, I now see a regular GP, a rhumy, and a geriatric cardiologist --all for the same not known condition I have, I have been on prednisone, on mataxolate , on s low carb diet all for this condition that does not seem to be diagnosable nor sufficiently treated. I am only 72 and quite frankly did not expect to be so imobolized. Next I think I'm going for Shamans and essential oils--perhaps burning of sage and some chants fellow crones and sages,
