Given the frequency of postings on this forum about challenges diagnosing chronic autoimmune diseases I thought I’d share this article on medics struggles when symptoms don’t “fit” neatly into a specific diagnosis. The good news is, there is recognition from the national group focused on reducing diagnostic errors that this is a challenge.

Thanks for posting. In the run up to my PMR diagnosis, I suspected that my notes said “ this woman is a hypochondriac “. I felt cut off by some doctors before I managed to explain my symptoms. Finally getting my diagnosis was like being given the key to a secret door. Suddenly I was credible again. My mistake was talking only about my most worrying symptom at the time, instead of painting the full picture.
