Anyone contracted Irritable bowel syndrome after taking Preds? Is this among the many side effects that can occur? Thanks.

When I first started taking prednisone for my PMR, when I was on 10 mg for 2 months, I had a lot of IBS symptoms. I had to take omeprazole due to prednisone side effects and I put it down to that. After I reduced my prednisone dose I dropped the omeprazole and things settled a bit. I’ve been borderline IBS at times prior to PMR, though.

In a word yes. It was worst in the morning and got better through the day. Nothing awful but not just not right though at high doses it was more extreme. Below 5mg it’s become ok.

I recently started in 90 mgs of prednisone and have been weaning down slowly, due to a dangerous situation with amelytic anemia. (My immune system attacking my red blood cells). My doctor had me take Prilosec before breakfast every morning and so far so good. I will stop the Prilosec eventually as I go lower with the prednisone.
