No it doesn’t have to be.
The coated variety takes longer to get in the system - up to 4-5 hours so if you take it at bedtime it’s ready to fight the daily dump of inflammation which happens around 4 am. That’s why some people take it at that time.
The uncoated version takes about 2 hours to work - and sometimes it disrupts sleep.
It’s really a matter of seeing what suits the individual.

No - some people use ordinary pred and take it at night but the idea of using the coated version at night is, as DorsetLady says, to accommodate the delay of some hours before it works for most people and to make morning stiffness better.
