Anyone tried these? I’ve been advised to give them a try and wondered if people on here had any experience.

My mother used to take them for her arthritis. I am not sure they really worked though.

Thanks piglette, that’s the problem as some people swear by things but they don’t always work. I’ve tried cbd oil and I didn’t really notice anything so am a bit hesitant about green lipped mussels! Saying that I’ll probably give it a go as I’m desperate to get some relieve from constant pain. I’ve just started on Amitriptyline as the physio said it would help with my back and neck pain and also help me sleep. Just over a week in and yes I’m sleeping better but feeling lousy

Isn’t pred working? You should have a pretty good reaction unless it is not PMR that is causing the pain. I read that six billion dollars is made from supplements each year in the US and only a tiny percentage actually has any effect!!

Now that’s the big question, I do think the pred is working as I am able to function, not like when first woke up with this 3 years ago. Yes I can walk around, I’m even learning to dance! But I do have a lot of hip and shoulder pain still. I’ve just dropped to 14mg and whenever I get to 12mg the pain gets a lot worse. My last cpr reading was 17 so still showing an elevated inflammation. I’m going to have bloods done again soon and see what they reveal. I do still get fatigued easily and can’t do the things I used to even though in my head I think I can. I do wonder if I should be just pushing through the reduction and see how bad it gets but that doesn’t sound like a bundle of fun.

Griggser, all the expert information on here will tell you to go dead slow with pred and if you're in pain, you are not taking enough. Pushing for a reduction is pointless with pmr and will only set you back. Read PMRPro's posts for detailed information on reduction. All the best.

Teesher thanks for your input. Now if only there was a pain meter that could tell you how much pain your actually in and you could then show people! I do realise that slow and steady is the way to successful reduction and I won’t be doing anything rash.

My previous GP had me pushing through a reduction and it didn't work, all my initial pain came back and I felt so ill🤔.Sorry I don't know anything about green lipped mussels!

Have you got your doctor to "explore" the hip and shoulder pain NOT being simply PMR? It could be bursitis, it could be myofascial pain syndrome - or it might not even be PMR. All things that might respond to higher doses of pred but not lower ones.

I am due to see the rhuemy in December. I’ll get my bloods done before this and discuss what other possibilities it could be. I’m pretty sure we’ve talked about it a while ago and with all the ups and downs in steroids he was happy to confirm it was pmr. No harm in asking again though.

But also question if the hip/shoulder pain could be bursitis which would respond better to injections maybe

Bowen Therapy....................got me out of wheelchair and zimmer frame, both consigned to the garage.

If you put Bowen Therapy into the search box there is a couple of threads on it.

I do know green lipped mussel cream is very good for healing...especially for those ulcers on varicose veins.

Thanks jinasc, I did have several sessions of Bowen therapy and apart from feeling relaxed at the end of the session I did not feel any other benefits.

Yes, it does not work for everyone.......but why I tried it was that the registered therapists all tell you after the three weekly one hour sessions that it is not going to work for you. I thought that was very honest.

Hi Griggser,

I don't take any supplements apart from a couple to support bone health, but I do regularly use pernaton, which is green lipped muscle extract in lotion and bath oil form. I find both are soothing, and the lotion is much gentler than other rubs for muscle stiffness. I don't find that it stops the pmr pain (my pred dose keeps that at bay), but it eases the additional aches and pains. I'll take anything that makes life a bit more comfortable! Pernaton can be ordered online - I get mine through Amazon.

My gp suggested the green lipped mussel supplement when I saw him a month ago. I have been on them for a month now and intend to see out the three month supply I have bought. I am feeling better but because I have recently come off of Pantoprazole and lowered my steroid dose to 9mg I am unsure what doing what.

Guess its a case of try it and see. x
