Hi, do any of you wear a MedicAlert bracelet or neckchain? Are they worth investing in?

I wore a bracelet all through my GCA days…and yes worthwhile… and probably the first place a medic will see when they test for pulse. Plenty to choose from online, as simple or as ornate as you wish.
In fact I found the information part [have utilised the chain elsewhere] when I was having a sort out of dressing table drawers last week on a wet day!
I hadn't actually thought of that. I carry my steroid card on me wherever I go, but as you say, that might not be noticed. I know this is probably a really stupid question, but what is actually on the bracelet to alert someone to your specific need?
Sorry if I'm being really dim here!
You can buy some very cheap ones from that well known online store that just says ‘patient on steroids’ or something similar… or if you buy a metal one it can be engraved with what you like.. I had my name, DOB, Long term steroid user, NOK name & phone number. Some [with extra charge] can be linked to help centre which has all your details. Has details on underside and medic alert symptom on topside
This is the site I used…universalmedicalid.co.uk
Not being dim..😊
I certainly did. A first responder would need to know you needed steroid to get you through an acute situation if you were not able to speak for yourself. Something in your purse may remain undiscovered in the heat of the moment. I wore mine for 18 months or so after I stopped Pred because one’s adrenal function isn’t always reliable just because you stop Pred as it a take time.
I have a bracelet too. It is really like insurance, you may never need it, but if you ever do it is there!!
Hi I've started wearing a Steroid Dependant/Taking Steroids rubber bracelet which I got on ebay. About £5.00.
I got my id bracelet from the I D BAND Company on the on Internet ,a good selection and quick .
Yes, I do. It states that I have PMR, am taking steroids and has my wife's phone number. I tape a small piece of paper to it with my current dose.
Hi Groggrim, do you mean a bracelet with your name and NHS number on or or an alarm with a button to press for medical attention?
Hi Groggrim. I wear a very nice gold plated bracelet which on reverse says my name, steroid user and emergency tel no which is my husband’s mobile number. I got it from a company on Etsy.
I reckoned if I was going to wear this all the time, which I do, I wanted a very nice piece of jewellery that looked good . It does have the medical alert sign on the front but is quite unobtrusive but effective if an emergency should happen. 💐
in my late teens i was prescribed high dose steroids for Stills disease, it was 1979. When I was well enough to out with pals my Mum wrote STEROIDS on the back of my hands in indelible ink. I also carried the card for years. You can’t be too careful she said. Now she’s 87 with limited mobility and carries a card with my name and mobile on it should she need help.
Good morning Groggrim🙂I have 2 identical rubber bracelets: steroid dependent. PMR.
As my screen lock and normal background on my phone I have written: in an emergency contact my hub. That
I can have an adrenal crisis and it is an emergency. I also mentioned I'm on prednisolone and current dose. In my phone case is my steroid treatment card.
But I only wear my bracelet when I'm away from home.
Best wishes
🙂x
Yes indeed! I have a cheapo cheapo silicone bracelet that says “Alert! Steroid Dependent”. Never take it off. I also have a medical alert section on my iPhone but not entirely sure how or why it works. I don’t always carry my phone and rarely take my purse on dog walks so the steroid card in my wallet is more or less redundant.

You can also use the Emergency bit on your smartphone - it is accessible even without the passcode for the phone and gives the details you enter and the emergency phone contacts.
Yes, I ware a bracelet have done for years, saves bothering with a card in every bag, and it looks ok, xx
Yes, but never wear it! Nothing like honesty, is there? But this topic comes up regularly here, & when it does I go find it, & wear it a few days….!! I have a new card, too!
Many thanks for all these replies. I am going to look into it today 🙂
