‘Feel good’ show

Went into London yesterday to see Strictly Ballroom. I do get anxious before we go out to London for various reasons, but had such a lovely day. Walked from the embankment to Piccadilly. The show is Fab-u-lous! The dancing, costumes and choreography are brilliant with the added bonus of Will Young singing some lovely songs. Wanted to see it again as soon as it had finished. Had a nice meal, and got home about 8pm. Was nicely tired, and this morning I feel ok. No deathly fatigue. Definitely recommend it. 🎭🎭

Brilliant! 💃🏻 It’s great to be able to achieve Outings like that & presume it was a Matinee as you were home by 8pm. They are a good option as by night time we can be too tired to enjoy!

Yes it was a matinee Mrs Nails. Don’t like being up there in the evening so much. X

Know what you mean about anxiety beforehand. Everyone else seems to walk with such purpose in the city except me!!! Glad you took the plunge and enjoyed your trip so much. An example of hope for all that there is life with PMR and pred!!

I understand your anxiety - I detest London!!!!! I'm not keen on most big cities but there are some I love. London? Six months living there put me off for life! Both my daughters love it!

I used to love going there when I was younger but things have changed so much. Still go there to see shows cos I love a musical!

A lady out of my own heart! I tend to go just for the shows and art galleries these days. Have seen Les Mis eight times and it still has the same Wow Factor as when I saw it for the first time!!!!!! Also like going to Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon for live Theatre. Simply another world!!!!!!!

Thanks York. We certainly did!

I’ve stopped booking Shows & Concerts as I’ve cancelled quite a few or given tickets away.

Recently l’ve actually booked on the day & got some great seats.

Now we’ve moved we have a local theatre 🎭 close by, 1.5miles away so no excuse not to go there!

We live the same distance from a couple of theatres, they bring the West End productions down here, currently Jersey Boys which I would love to see - don't always go now - must get complacent. Like going to the beach (or not) 1.5 miles! must be getting old! Some years ago now, always used to go up to London for a meal and show - I've known us do two shows in one day! Happy days. I wouldn't do an evening show now and come back via train, not brave enough... x

Westcliff on Sea - borders of Kent Elms - do you know it?

Yes know westcliff well. Was born in Southend, I live in Hornchurch now. You’ve got the Cliffs Pavillion which puts on really good shows.

I see - I'm a Yorkshire lass, lived here for 30 years now and 'considering' whether to move back to be near no 1 son - BIG decision as I love it here - plus got excellent healthcare - but as said we don't do the things we used to regardless they're on the doorstep - we'll see...

We’ve got a local theatre but they are not allowed to put on West end shows because we are too near central London. My daughter in Kent gets loads of top shows. 🎭

Sorry to say my last trip to a London theatre was to see ‘Oh what a lovely war’, in the 60s, oh and a depressing Chekhov play in the 70s which a friend took me to, to cheer me up! Since then there are numerous things I wanted to see, and have the opportunity as my sister lives there. However she lives in Richmond, and once I’m there I walk by the river, and in the park, or go to Kew Gardens. I then come back to Derbyshire and then wonder why, yet again I haven’t got to the theatre! I lived there for ten years but now it takes an effort to go to London, more so since PMR etc. Once I’m there I’m fine, but still hate crowds and the Underground.

Why do you 'wonder why'? Derbyshire is lovely isn't it?

i get it, you meant not having gone to the theatre! Sorry doh!

Yes, I meant going to the theatre! Derbyshire is lovely, but we all like to go somewhere else!

I realised as soon as I'd replied, talk about pred head!

That's true, it's the getting there now that's seems like a mountain to climb sometimes!

Me too. I live in Essex so it’s not really that far. A means to an end. You live in a lovely part of the country.

Used to live in London, daughter still does but also get nervous about going there and booking anything. Like others a bit nervous how I'll cope. So good that you took the plunge and went out of your comfort zone. We have to try that sometimes don't we?! When we do it's such a great sense of achievement I find and is a boost. Sometimes for me the apprehension is worse than the event so we keep on keeping on!!

You’re so right Jackoh. I do feel anxious for a couple of days beforehand, especially when going abroad. Usually find that is the case. But London is so different to what it was years ago.

Hi Suet,l am pleased you enjoyed the show,l understand your anxiety going to London.l used to love going there in the sixties, and we used to take our two boys there for Christmas shopping. The last time l went was to see The Railway Children at Kings Cross,a brilliant show, but as for shopping and even sightseeing it is far too crowded .l used to love Covent Garden but again it is so busy ,there used to be a nice atmosphere in London years ago but sadly not anymore.
