Awake in the small hours

It’s now 3.25 a.m. ! Does anyone have similar troubles with a rumbling rolling squeaking stomach ? I have tried a bite to eat but still the grumbling continues. Sleeping is impossible as the noise just won’t stop.

Some sleepy tea might help, containing camomile and other herbs. Once you’ve started to obsess on a symptom it is hard to break the pattern,

Thank you Sheffieldjane for your advice. I will try some sleepy tea. Hadn’t thought of that. Sorry you are awake also at this middle of the night time !!

After 3 years on pred for GCA and now down from 60mg when 1st diagnosed to 7mg I thought sleepless nights were a thing of the past. Not so tonight. I am off to put the kettle on.

Thank you Dorset Lady,

Will try the Pukka Night Time. Anything to stop the noise of my stomach. It sounds like an orchestra in there !

I seem to bo up more often than in bed these days. I've been up since 3ish but have only just switched on computer and seen your posting. I had 4 hrs. sleep and will nap as necessary thro. the day. My mind is my problem it just won't stop. Another blackbird fan here, it's a lovely way to start the day.

Yes I agree scats, the mind going into overdrive and the stomach thinking it’s an orchestra, not much chance of sleep. Keep on smiling as my dear old Dad would say, and don’t lose your sense of humour.

Do you sleep on your side and if so which side? Apparently it's better to sleep on the left side and certainly when I learned massage years ago the tummy is always massaged in a circular clockwise direction. Gravity aids digestion if on left side.

I sleep on my left side most of the time and yes to peppermint tea I drink lots when having an IBS flare it’s the only thing that helps.

I have a cup of hot milk with a teaspoon of honey in it - works like magic for me.

Seems to be common complaint.... even small sleeping tablet doesn’t work.... sometimes a bowl of porridge before I go to sleep helps .... eating helps the discomfort anything from 2.30 to 4 am... or a Gaviscon! I don’t fret any more just turn on and listen to Steve Allen on LBC who is very amusing or listen to a story on my iPhone.... usually get back to sleep again. Can’t remember when I slept right through the night last!

Even a biiiig sleeping pill doesn't help. Like you say. Relax with a story etc and try not to be anxious.

Are you on any other drugs besides pred?

Annie1001 profile image
Annie1001 in reply toPMRpro

I am on Bisoprolol 1.25 Daily and over the counter glucosamine MSM + chondroitin for creaky knees. So no big intake of pills other than 7mg pred. which I am trying to reduce slowly. Hoping for a better night tonight !!
