Foot query

Guys - anybody got fierce foot pain - probably not to do with thePMR but the pain is shocking. I can't come down with the pred - because of the unbearable foot and leg pain. I know there's been some kind of discussions about this kind of thing - but I don't think its PMR related? Like all my bones in my feet have been bashed with something.

Hello, do you mean along the bones, the soft bits or the joints? Also, is it where the foot touches the floor?

Absolutely all of them - I can feel each bone relly sore - and underneath - the soles of my feet. Literally if I touch off the bones on my feet they hurt real bad. Walking is not pleasant!! Feet feel like trying to walk on a stoney beach.

Yes - that's what it felt like for me: walking on pebbles mixed with broken glass. Don't remember they hurt to touch though.

Obviously if it is getting worse as you lower the pred there must be some inflammation involved - definitely something to ask the rheumy about.

yeah unfortunately thats where I'll be headed - back to a rheumy I think. Not to the original one that kicked me off pred after 12 months - someone else. I'm going away in two weeks so will carry on til I come back and then try get some stuff sorted. Very scary when you can't walk right!! The pain is severe so will keep the pred up a bit til I come back. Thank you.

That's a bit like my feet felt early days with PMR - pre-pred. It faded slowly over about 4 or 5 months once I started pred. My feet felt as if they had been bound tightly and squashed together.

As Snazzy says, do you mean all over? Or specific areas?

literally all over - soles of feet, sides near ankle bones. Literally sore to the touch even. It gets worse as I lower the pred. And they throb,

That was first sign for me that something more than usual fibro and neuropathy going on. I tried to walk and had to sit down and take boots off for a while. Like walking on hot knives and stones with shoes 4 sizes too small on.

Yes exactly - and did you find out what it is - is is related to the PMR?

Judging by the number of people I have heard say something similar over the past 9+ years - yes, part of PMR. I suspect it is tendonitis - which I also had in my hands. The leeds group looked at hands and feet and confirmed that they can also be involved in PMR though a lot of doctors deny it.

I really don't know what I thought at the time. I have got used to transient aches and pains over the years. But when I was finally DX I thought well if you look at the structure of the feet, blood vessel and muscle wise, it would be a surprise if there wasn't some foot pain involved when inflammation strikes.

I've only got G.C.A.-I don't think mine is the same but I have Varicose Veins courtesy of Klinefelters Syndrome and have to wear elastic stockings permanently. The first sort supplied were open toe and where the end of the stocking stopped it constricted the flesh of both feet giving me excruciating pains inside the flesh. Came without warning and not helped by the Paracetamol I was taking for recovering spine bone fracture. It went when open toe stockings replace by closed toe. If it's inflammation causing this then try upping the prednisolone to a level when the pain stops.

Best wishes

Colin

thank you - yes it does seem to be the only thing that helps the pain.
