Interested if any of our PMR friends have experienced hot ropey looking blood vessels that have developed on their PMR/GCA journey.
Caught my usual regular upper respiratory virus at Easter - lots of rest, fluids and my trusty lypo-spheric vit c got me through - no green phlem which was a bonus.
Usually can't see my blood vessels but about this time I became aware of raised burning sensation from medium size vessels, L wrist to inner elbow & 2 branches which feed into bigger vessel top R hand/wrist junction .
Have another (mild) respiratory virus (my usual winter fare), usual thrush issues, hot pulling sensation under left armpit & what seems like hot flushes - body fighting something.
Back to see Dr tomorrow as phone message from Rheumy via his Secretary this morning suggests infection?
Had increased my meds at Easter 0.50mg & have now increased another 0.50mg today - I take acid resistant capsule containing hydrocortisone which takes 6 hours to break down in bowel leaving my troubled gut alone.
Have hypothyroid, on synthyroid 5 or so years
Any feedback gratefully received as always.

Completely stumped Megams. I hope it isn’t related to Vasculitis which is probably in your mind. The doctor may suggest an MRI Scan. Let us know the outcome. Poor you!
~Thank you Sheffieldjane - I sincerely hope this isn't a form of vasculitis either.
Had the standard bloods/urine test ordered today by GP.
Not holding my breath as she made the comment that there appears strange flu's/virus's around presently which I find is usually a convenient standard stock comment.
When I suggested my ESR should be checked with the bloods she said that the lab won't do it; CRP is enough......... Where's the logic in that? My ESR has been very slowly climbing so won't know this time round.
Will report back should there be some definitive answers - I won't give up because something is clearly amiss.
~Absolutely totally endorse your comment PMRpro - I see Rheumy next week 3 month check - will seek answers (if poss) before he heads off on hols for one month o/sea. I'm feeling more than slightly miffed by some of our medical profession & with good cause........
I have them too--mine aren't hot though, just raised ropey looking blood vessels. My doc said they are due to fluid retention from the pred....mine come and go at will, but mostly they are visible. Like right now...they make me feel so old. They are in both hands up into my lower arms and the tops of my feet. They aren't hot and they don't hurt. I've chalked mine up to the pmr journey. Never easy, is it? Best wishes, hang in there!
~Thank you for your reply Twopies - not sure how far into your PMR journey you first noticed your raised ropey blood vessels.
Usually my blood vessels are not evident & don't appear (even for blood tests sometimes) so its been with the altered sensation of hot, raised & tenderish that has caught my attention.
I've got Aloe gel in the fridge - soothing indeed .....
recently, I, too, have noticed raised blood vessels in hands and feet. Presumed it went with the crepy skin that has been gifted to me since turning 72.🤪
~I do think its fair to say that a certain amount will naturally occur with aging. My raised hot vessels are intermittent throughout day and not continuous which should give a clue. Dr was slightly dismissive yesterday wondering if I was a bit hot from time to time - how clueless!
Isn't aging fun Purplecrow? Thanks for your feedback
